  1. Until tonight and she walks by, hand in hand with another guy, she’s dressed to kill and guess who’s dying.
  2. As many have said the team wasn’t that great through the early 80s, however the attendances even in the late 60s and 70s were on the wane. Even then, although you would get good crowds for the Hibs, Hearts, celtic games, we were struggling to make 25-30k at weekends for the provincial teams and 10k less than that during the week. Think people in general had increasingly more money, more options and a lot had moved out from Glasgow to the new towns. As others have said, the stadium was redeveloped in the early 80s, Copland Stand was 79/80 and Broomloan the following year. I think that change also has some effect as many of the old timers were used to standing and to lower gate prices. I know my old man gave up going in 1980 after they built the Copland Rd Stand and the wilder element of our support decanted into the Enclosure which was until then a bit of a refuge from them. In regard to safety, although it was worse than now it was considerably better than the 60s and 70s due to the measures taken after the disaster and the 1980 cup final.
  3. Russell Martin, good God. Suppose, on the bright side, it would remove any concerns about being refused entry into Ibrox without a VP.
  4. This is the bit that I find most annoying. Yeh, we all pretty well knew that words are cheap and Gerard would leave the first time he felt a better opportunity was in the offing. Hard enough that he leaves in the middle of the season before some vital games but if he’s totally going to clean out all our support staff at the same time it shows total disrespect and lack of any concern for Rangers and the fans.
  5. Would hope we would be able to leverage more money for him than that (unless there is some ceiling in his contract). Particularly so, if he’s going to take the entire back room team with him.
  6. Still think that if Gerard goes, our best option would be to try to court Beale into taking the manager’s job. He’ll never get a better opportunity of making a name for himself as the main man, particularly as he already knows and been key to developing our team. The analogy with Walter taking over from Souness is there. I know he doesn’t have the attachment to us that Walter had but the time might be right for him to strike out on his own. From our standpoint, it would at least alleviate some of the disruption that will result if Gerard leaves, providing some continuity to the players. Not convinced about bringing in a foreign manager, that route has never worked out very well for us (excepting the two years Advocaat was allowed to throw money around).
  7. You’re right. Nowadays, it pays not to to take what anybody says at face value (unless you actually know them well). Ambition, status and money will almost always be predominant driving factors, talk is cheap.
  8. I agree that, although it was great to win, the final was a bit of a damp squib for those who didn’t actually go to Barcelona. The final wasn’t even on live on the tv, deferred transmission as I recall. Set out to do a ‘Likely Lads’ scenario hiding in my bedroom, and ended up listening to the last thirty minutes on the transistor praying for the final whistle. The following day was a bit like Manchester, our achievement overshadowed in the Press by the crowd scenes. Even the teams return and display of the cup at Ibrox was dampened down a bit by the rain tipping it down all day and night.
  9. If Beale wants to be his own man, he’ll not get a better chance than taking over a team he knows and has helped build. Depends if he views staying as Gerard’s wingman with the eventual destination of Liverpool as a better option.
  10. If Gerard was to leave, I think Beale would be the logical candidate if he wanted it. Bit of a risk, I know, as he has never been the main man at any club but I cannot see too many better candidates given the financial constraints we have to work in. Would also hopefully allow a continuation of the progress made over the last few years without the disruption which could be caused by bringing in a new man.
  11. An eventful night, lots of memories. Only fifteen at the time and watched with my mates from halfway up the Broomloan Terracing. Got covered in piss from a half-cut guy peeing in a can behind us throwing his hands in the air celebrating Sandy’s early goal. Didn't seem to greatly bother us at the time. Dave Smith was sublime that night, Beckenbauer all the over the place. After the game, waiting outside a pub in Govan for a lift home, and my auld man coming out beaming after watching them getting knocked out on penalties (think their game kicked off an hour after ours). Then watching the highlights of both games on tv when I got home with the late great Bob Crampsey in the studio, face bright red and sweating, with his shirt sleeves rolled up, summarising the night”s events. One of the best nights ever.
  12. Going to the last three matches at Ibrox and experiencing normality again gave me some optimism but reading this thread has killed that. I’m as guilty as everybody else for getting involved in pointless argument over the benefits/risks of taking the vaccine. Pointless, because by this stage, we are all fully entrenched on what side of the fence we sit on the issue. Those who are vaccinated have a vested interest in defending the decision they have made. Those who have resisted all the State coercion and ostracisation to this point are also dug in on their views. Whatever our views on the vaccine, whatever our vaccine status, are we really going to agree to the government splitting us on this issue and back their discriminatory VP system. Remember, many of the fans who will no longer be allowed entry by the VP introduction, are the same people who stood united and took the unrelenting flak from all sides during the spring and summer of 2012 and supported/followed the club on the road back. Some will have also been there through the lean years of the late 60s and early 80s and are still following to this day. Given the above, I’ve been really disappointed in our Club on this issue. I know they are in a difficult position and it’s probably unrealistic for them to not go along with the discriminatory measures mandated by the government. However, I think that Aberdeen at least showed in their statement last week a recognition and understanding of the positions of the different groups affected by this discriminatory measure. Is it really asking too much for a similar recognition be given by our own Club to supporters who have followed them through thick and thin over many years. For over 60 years, I’ve heard Rangers fans shout ‘We are the People’ from the terracing/stands. For me, it was and expression of togetherness of our support in supporting the Club, despite our many differences and disagreements as individuals. If it was and is to mean anything, we must stay together and not divide as a support over this.
  13. Trust in your own judgement mate, only you know your particular circumstances, and it’s you who will have to take the consequences of your decision. Not easy I know but try and find sources/people you believe or know you can trust giving both perspectives so you can be as informed on the matter as possible. Ignore those who would try to shame and/or coerce you into a particular decision, they don’t have your best interests at heart.
  14. Yeh, see the public health authorities in Denmark, Sweden and Finland are now giving out dangerous conspiracy theories on the health risk of these jabs. Even our own JCVI were into conspiracy theories when they advised not giving the jag to 12-15 year olds. Good job our government got the four CMOs to put them straight eh.
  15. No, but I did learn the hard way not to just bow to the authority of someone with letters after their name.
  16. It’s irrational mate. We all happily sat together at full houses in Ibrox for the celtic, Motherwell and Hibs without a thought, talking and singing, not even a mask in sight. After the last eighteen months, it was fantastic to go to something that reminded you how it used to be. Now, through the imposition of VP’s, that normality has been taken away for no rational reason. Its almost as if our Government has said, we can’t get used to people thinking things are back to normal, we must impose restrictions to divide them (to create a scapegoat group) and maintain the level of coercive control we’ve had for the last eighteen months. Those who think accepting VP’s is getting their freedom back are sadly mistaken, they are accepting a State Licence system to maintain their basic freedoms.
  17. Hope you don’t learn the hard way how misguided the ‘trust the expert’ approach can be. Ultimately, you may have to place your trust in the doctor/professional sitting in front of you but that doesn’t mean you should blindly accept everything he proposes without challenge. This is even more so at the population level, when you are asked to accept the general advice of public health ‘experts’ who have no knowledge of your age, past or current health, your lifestyle, etc. Remember it will not be the ‘expert’ who has to contend with any reaction/ adverse effect in the early hours of the of the morning, or hang on the phone all day to get a GP to see you.
  18. They haven’t just been conned. They have been subject to continuous State propaganda for over eighteen months and ongoing psychological abuse using coercive and controlling behaviour techniques promoted by SAGE. The victims of such abuse are often the last people to realise it, are frequently in denial and will vehemently defend their abuser against criticism from others.
  19. Would that be the same ‘Science’ that managed to create the virus in the first place.
  20. By the time they get their app to work, the vaccine passport system will be a waste of time anyway. You’ll be able to distinguish the vaccinated straight away by the horns growing out of their heads.
  21. Needs at least half a season before we can make any true judgement on him. Having said that, the type of player that he is is not particularly suited for most of the domestic games we play, where teams defend deep and limit the space for players, whose main asset is their pace, to run into. By the same token, it surprised me we let Itten go and not replace him with a similar type that is suited to playing in our domestic league.
  22. That is quite a good statement from Aberdeen. Would like to see something similar from Rangers.
  23. Agree. The way the best way to overcome such behaviour is to do what Arsenal did to Slavia last season, give them a good hiding in their own midden.
