  1. Agree with you on the players and the size of the task however stating Rangers run the risk of becoming just another Scottish club are way off the mark. If that is the case i hate to think of the composition of our fans. Glory hunters who just thought 3 years and 3 lower league wins and we'll be back in the top flight challenging. Sounds awfully like what mccoist May have thought also......naive doesn't come close. I honestly believe that should we not go up, looks to be the case, that the only thing that will keep attendances up is a new style of attacking, attractive and technical football. This requires a club to change its mentality for the best part of the last 20 or so years (excluding the advocaat years). This will all come down to the appointment of the right man. Do I think McCall is capable of doing a good job? Yes. Do I think he is the right man to change the club bottom up? No, it's not enough of a change. It needs to be someone with new ideas, who can work with youth and who has good contacts. Is this Cathro? Perhaps. I'd always stated I wanted us to take in applications for the job and I still do. Mccoist blew an opportunity to start afresh and he squandered it in favour of short term gain. If we go up I can't see us revolutionising our approach but we'll be in the top flight. If we fail to go up we cannot afford to waste such an opportunity.
  2. It's pretty clear the players should be fully focussed on the job at hand in other words do your talking on the pitch. Boyd was honest and got praised until he then played and showed no change in his performance level. Clark scored 2 so from his perspective it was better and there were elements that were better. Had we won the game 2-1 he'd probably have got away with it. The truth is winning is not ingrained in the team anymore. Losing a point should floor these guys but it's water off a ducks back. A full clear out is required to get rid of the McCoist legacy once and for all.
  3. I think just the impact of dropping the captain should be enough to show the players that McCall means business however I think there is no hope for the dozen players out of contract, there is no motivation from them to play. That's why the youth players might be the better option. I really can't imagine Halkett is any worse than mcculloch or mohsni.
  4. Totally agree. McCall has stated no one has a guaranteed place in the team. Was this an empty threat or will he keep true to his word and drop anyone who under performs. If he drops mcculloch I will feel that he can do a job, if he plays him then thankfully it's only a deal til the end of he season. Look at when advocaat stripped amoroso of the captaincy.....it was a tough call but obviously one he felt was right at the time, regardless of how it was perceived. I hunk mcculloch is a joke of a captain but I'd settle for him to simply be removed from e first team. I want to believe that McCall will make his mark however it seems mcculloch is a cert to play......perhaps it's in his 18k a week contract.
  5. You're righ, none of this will change until the "elders" who condone this attitude get away from the club. If you simply add to these players you'll get more players regressing. The summer cannot come soon enough. We need players who are fit both physically and mentally to be a professional footballer, not someone looking for a kick about with mates.
  6. You never know. I'd be delighted to see one youth in each third. Sinnamon at RB, Walsh LM and Gallgher CF. Hardie on bench. That would show me that McCall is keen to try something different.
  7. http://rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/item/8827-two-miss-out-as-bell-returns Hopefully he can play a big part in the run in, if our defence remains as bad as it is he might need to.
  8. You have to be able to take positives from any situation otherwise it'll never end up in your favour. Div 3 lost most of our team and a man in charge who a lot of people could tell wasn't up to the job but we filled Ibrox time and time again. If fate takes a steaming dump on us and we're in this division with Hibs or Motherwell next year we just have to be sure we lay down the foundations correctly this time. However, I'd take play off promotion if we can get it.....gladly
  9. Beat Alloa and Hibs and string a run of wins together and who knows. It all comes down to tomorrow. If we fail to win there then I doubt we'll have enough momentum co e the play offs to take us through. I called it in division 3 that the championship would be where McCoist was found out.....just hoped he'd have been out before it was too late. Had McCall been in from January with a chance to move some players in and out then I think we'd be looking at a very different scenario. As for being in the championship for another year, if we make the right moves and play the right football it may be the blessing in disguise. Take the short term hit for long term gain......or do what mccoist did and go for short term success with no thought of long term planning.
  10. I'd take he front line but perhaps give temps the central role, Darren Ramsay on the right and Walsh left. I'd play McKay if he'd been around. Agree with Gallagher up front and Hardie on the bench to get a go. Hutton has gone back to how he was so perhaps black deserves a shot under McCall. For the back line if rather see Sinnamon at RB, McGregor and Halkett CB and Wallace LB. If we'd had Gasparotto he'd been in, if street was fit he'd be in. It will be intriguing to see how brave McCall is to change the team around and the formation played.
  11. Freddy Adu......Football Manager wonder kid from years gone by. Honestly, that's a depressing list to choose from. In all seriousness Walsh has shown that motivated, driven and talented players are probably closer than we think. Got to loathe Hibs for getting Allan and Fyvie and we let go of Telfer (now Scotland U21s) and Macleod. Total joke of a signing policy, really don't want to land any more duds.
  12. This. Been calling for this for months now. I also want Gallagher and Hardie given a shot. Central mid is a problem area for me. Don't really like any of them and I think murdoch is ok but not capable of bossing the midfield. would love to have seen Bigirimana in action......what happened as he was one of the three to actually join up with the team. Walsh and murdoch have shown are youth are decent, works in progress but decent. Would really like to see Sinnamon at RB though.
  13. Mcgregor and Zaliukas at centre back, Sinnamon at right back and Wallace at left back if fit, if not then Jamie mills. We have options but only if McCall is prepared to call on the youth.
  14. Hardie, Gallagher, murdoch, Walsh, sinnamon, Halkett. Would also see Gasparotto and McKay If they weren't out on loan.
  15. You're entitled to your own opinion but I'll give you mine, you are deluded if you believe what you have said. You say he had done amazingly well but any manager in Scotland with a budget that size would have got up those divisions. Mccoist was a coward, he took the easy option because he cannot develop players. A good manager worth their salt would have brought in a few experienced players and played youth to supplement it. No one was calling for 11 youths. The reason people say put in the youths is that any youths that have played have shown the right attitude and that for me counts for more than ability and piss poor attitude when the chips are down.. McCall said himself that under performing players would be dropped. We'll see if he's true to his word and then we'll see if a team with the likes of Walsh, Gallgher, Murdoch, Sinnamon, Halkett etc. would be better than the guff that our hard earned cash is lining their pockets with while they've been swanning around like f-ing superstars taking days off after awful performances. Whatever happens between now and the end of the season I tell you one thing I can't wait until these contracts expire and they are gone for good. The sooner we can get rid of mccoist legacy the better regardless of division.
  16. I expected us to get a narrow win today. The work starts now. The players need to be in training tomorrow, those who played today need to be dropped with the exception of Walsh, Wallace, McGregor and Robinson. If McCall plays mcculloch and co against Alloa, then there is no hope for him or us. I think the only way to get around the issues caused by McCoist and McDowall is to to make them the minority in the first team. I think if he drops enough of them we might get the win we all know we need on Tuesday. If we've seen anything of late it's that the best performers are those that have been distant to mccoist and McDowalls ways i.e. Walsh, Vuckic and to an extent Murdoch. Surely anyone can see McCoist and McDowall have failed to inspire, motivate or develop any of the players at their disposal over the last 3 years in the 4th, 3rd and 2nd tier of Scottish football with the second largest budget in the country. The problems run deep and until all of it can be purged we are going to suffer the same sort of indignant performances from people who couldn't care less as long as they get paid their dues. Scandalous footballing mercenaries who need to be dropped and never played again.
  17. It's not going to be total football overnight, but got to hope McCall encourages getting the ball on the deck. Suspect we'll look to win ugly at first and get some momentum and then gradually improve.
  18. Fair play, I do have a habit of being an armchair manager. I believe there is more to the other players we have in that position and I guess I'm looking for McCall to not be like McDowall and play the team that deserves to play on merit, not salary, status, favouritism or any other factor. Dropping mcculloch for me would be the single biggest indicator that McCall will make the right calls for the good of the team. On your point about whether he is right or wrong, he won't be wrong if he plays him against Livingston, but if he plays badly and stays in the team then yes I think he will be in the wrong. You can't turn a blind eye to under performing players. That was the problem with mccoist and McDowall, amongst many other things, in that complacency was rife in the team. Play badly.....keep your place in the team. Team has a terrible performance and drops points.......give them a day off. The language McCall was using in his conference fills me with optimism bug I just don't want that to evaporate really quickly.
  19. The best players in his assessment, so in my eyes we have rubbish at centre half but I wouldn't put mcculloch in our top two. If he wasn't club captain I doubt he'd play but my point is if his performances don't merit a start will mcall continue to play him as he's captain or drop him because he's not performing. That's the point I'm trying to make.
  20. So McCall said he told him about the chance to be assistant yesterday afternoon and he drives up from Sheffield to watch Livingston and Hibs. For me this is the professionalism and dedication we've sorely missed over the last 3 years. I'm hopeful that some of this might rub off on the players who will hopefully realise the privilege of being at our great club. Roll on Saturday, I can't wait.
  21. Really encouraged at today's events, pulling the players in from their day off to drill into them what's expected of them, the fact they are under performing and then run them through their paces. McCall then gave a good account of himself in his first press conference and it certainly sounds like he's planning on making changes but for me there is one key question. Does McCall have the balls to drop McCulloch? By the sounds of things he will drop players if they don't perform but does that mean he'll give players who have underperformed the chance to prove themselves? I really hope for mcculloch to be dropped because my heart will just sink if he starts and take the shine off of today.
  22. Agree with this, it's a far cry from mccoist. I doubt Hardie or Gallagher would start on Saturday. Not only have they played today but I believe that McCall will give the 11 strongest players ON PAPER the starting berth on Saturday, but if they fail to perform someone will be trying to get their place......so in other words you get a chance if you perform you stay in if you don't you get dropped. If anything the fact Hardie and Gallagher are doing so well it bodes well for next season with the right strikers alongside. I don't care how well Miller , Boyd and Daly do between now and he end of the season. Next year will be tougher than this especially if we get up and we need everyone to perform. Think one of these two will get game time if we are up against Livingston with 10 mins left.
  23. Hit the nail on the head. People bash you on here for wanting Cathro stating he's a novice and unproven etc. Yes it's a gamble and they'll cite mccoist as the last unproven manager but the key difference is he way Cathro is in very high regard and his vision of what a team should play like (attacking) and excite the crowd. He has a track record of developing players and I think if we really want to break free from the same old same old we have to be bold and brave. Don't get me wrong I'm delighted at mccalls imminent appointment but I'm equally delighted it's only til the end of the season. If McCall not only gets up but excels in the role then Great, give him another year. If we get up by e skin of our teeth I'd like to think we'd be eternally grateful for what he did but leave him to go back to Scotland role to let us change our direction. My opinion may not be popular but I really want to see Rangers redefined.
  24. McCall gave frank assessment of the players on BT sport so to then play these players it would reek of double standards. If he does drop them then it's exactly what we need and shows that he will make "tough" decisions for the benefit of the team. If McCulloch plays on Saturday then he cannot be given the job on a permanent basis in my opinion.
  25. Ever since smith returned this is what we have done. It started with th UEFA cup run where we sat in and counter attacked then it manifested itself in our domestic games too. I remember Valencia tearing us apart years back where they pressed us so hard you literally had the players on your back as soon as you had the ball at your feet. I've wanted us to play this way for a long time which is why I was despondent at mccoist getting the job as he just carried on where smi left off with our playing style. IWith any luck the youths are fitter than the first team and perhaps McCall can use them to get a fresh start and press teams from the first whistle to the last. Falkirk did this with us and the difference between them and raith was clear and thats why our players struggled on that night. You sit and watch us stand off Alloa rather than getting stuck into them, that's why there is no fear playing us now. I think with the playing style we have used there is less emphasis on fitness and given the all you can eat buffet that seems to go on at Murray Park its little wonder our players are less fit than part timers. It's shocking and I don't know if 11 games will be enough, here's hoping.
