Why all the love for number 18?

Did have a good game that day but in Europe only Lafferty and Miller have the movement and workrate to carry out the task. Lafferty is very injury prone so would go for Miller

I'm sorry but Miller has only played 2 games for us in Europe and was the worst player on the park in both. In Kaunas he was nothing short of abysmal, playing in the position you say he does well.

The argument that he can terrorise European defences with a little bit of running after his own first touch is laughable. Nothing proven yet about his European ability at all. His performances in Europe for Timmy were abject as well BTW.

Fuck sake there wasn't one player who came out of the two games against Kaunas with any sort of credit. Has a decent record of playing up front on his own at international level. He's hardly Drogba (understatement of the century possibly) but in terms of playing 1 up front he is the best option we have followed by Lafferty then Boyd. That's down to his work rate (awaits for McBoyd to reply saying Kris Boyd's workrate is tremendous) :craphead:

Miller isn't just about work rate, that's being unfair on him. If it was, Novo would probably get selected ahead of him more often.

In terms of off the ball movement, he's the best in this respect when compared to our other strikers. Whether pulling wide, seeing an opportunity over the top or coming short....he knows where to make his runs to either get himself on the ball, or at least drag defenders out of position.

He might not always have the greatest first touch, to say the least, but when he's on the ball he links up well with those around him, he plays with his head up more than Novo for example, his ball retention play is actually much better than I realised before he came back for a second spell with us.

For me, Miller on and off the ball is an intelligent footballer and has been a very good signing for us.

I think that is a very senisble point, while not being the bes finisher he off the ball movement is good and he does pop up with a fair few goals as well a touches and everything else

I didn't read the whole thread but I just wanted to say I hate when players and fans want specific numbers to match an ability. The only traditional number you get is 1 for the keeper and usually 7 for a winger, mifielder or forward.

And why the fuck is did Riordan have 01 last season???? :anguish:

Miller has been one of our best players so far this season and contributed a fair bit to help win the league and Scottish Cup.

And IMO he is a better player than Nacho Novo to have up front. But no one seems to slate Novo no matter how badly he does.

No love from me towards Kenny Miller.

A player who will always be far too inconsistant. When he plays well, he's a good player to have in the team. When he's off form, like a lot of last season, he's awful, and, at times, even his running about is overrated.

A bit more consistancy along with more goals this season is what is required from him!

Yet, nobody seems to agree with that mate, he was brilliant last season ;)

It's funny that Novo is every bit as bad, if not worse, than Miller in most aspects of his play yet he never get's anywhere near the same level of criticism for it.

Understatement of the century. Novo isn't in the same league as a footballer player IMO.

But according to some on here, he should be included in our Hall of Fame

Quite an interesting one

Ach bit of a shame this whole thread - but this thread doesn't really seem to have been initiated on Millers playing prowess or not but on the fact he played for them - (and yet outlaw doesn't seem to have the balls to say that - just distainfully calling him 18! and citing 'other' reasons) Sad opening post - very sad indeed!

We all have our opinions about best 11, best formation and such and as such Kenny Miller is an excellent player to have in our squad (IMHO).

 well done, massive incorrect assumption (tu) If It was "because he played for them", then, I would have said so. Do i like that? no, but, its not the over riding factor. I wasnt happy when we signed him the first time, am I a bigot because he was an ex hibs player?? haha. Have you forgotten what he said when he left us the first time?

I didnt realise calling a player by his squad number was such a terrible thing

Setting anything else aside, based on ability and contribution, not good enough, not for me. A decent (at best) squad player, and thats it.

To use some other "arguments" put forward in regard to other players, when we were in dire need of shifting someone out, why no rumours about him? Even Boyd had more transfer stories and, according to some, he is well below him in ability?

Some have said he performs great for Scotland, well, not as a striker he doesnt? And, why arent Scotland successful? Thats almost the same argument as Charlie Adam performing well for Blackpool. Doesnt make him good enough for Rangers does it?

So, why the sudden change of opinion towards him, given apart from a few games, he is still the Miller of old. Why the difference between the stadium and forms?

Well I "told it" to anyone who reads this thread and it seems a few people have mentioned how stupid it sounded so they obviosuly care. Fair enough if you don't care about looking like a twat though.

I think he doesn't care about you thinking he 'looks like' a twat.....

Cheers for the contribution pal (tu)

It was a good as yours in that regard, and, he is correct. I am sure I could find a handful of your posts and say the same about you, if I was 12 ;)

Don't care of past, don't care of origin if he plays in the rangers blues he gets the full support of me. Miller was tremendous last season and remember his two goals past them was fantastic. could be his most important season of his career this season though.

This season is 3 games old mate, and, so had Davis. He is another that was woefully inconsistent last season, but, with a bit of luck, he will keep it up. The difference is, Davis has vast amounts of ability, we all know that. Miller doesnt.

I dont know about Novo, remember back to his first season, played through the middle with Prso? Totally different player to the one we think of now. In all honesty, I dont think he is good enough either

He was far from being tremendous. He was very inconsistent but overall he had a good season that helped contribute to an SPL title and a Scottish Cup.

He has to be more consistent this year but to be fair that hamstring injury is not doing him any favours.

I'd rather have Novo in my team than Miller. Novo has proved he can score goals when he's played as a striker.

To be fair to Miller, he had a decent season last year but lost form around Christmas for a couple of months. Certainly played his part in winning the title. (tu)

I have to confess, I dont understand it, and, it annoys me.

Do some people really value running about or "workrate" over ability THAT much?

A distinctively average player, shocking technique, and, other aspects about him that are unpalletable, but, part of that is a personal thing. If we were a goal down, on an important occasion, and, he was all that was on the pitch, how much confidence would you have in him turning it on? I dont have much, if any

The huge argument prior to signing him was, "he isnt good enough" and, that hasnt changed, he is still not good enough, yet, people seem to be swooing over him. First pick in everyones teams??? Has he suddenly become Ronaldo or the like? Certainly seems that way

This isnt a Boyd debate either, so, we willexclude that early on, but, we have Lafferty and Naismith, both with more technique and composure, we also have Novo, who, If I was him, must be seriously peeved at seeing himself on the bench while this guy plays. Consistantly overlooked despite his contributions over the years with us, consistantly played "out of position" (since I know so many love that excuse for their favourite players), yet, nope isnt being given his fair crack of the whip.

Why should 18 get picked before these guys then? (and I didnt even get started on the younger players)

Lafferty - Naismith

Lafferty - Novo

Naismith - Novo

Lafferty - Boyd (my personal fav)

Naismith - Boyd - (worked pretty well at killie)

Novo - Boyd

Even excluding Nacho from the piece, the other 3 can make up any combo of strikers we like, all with more potential

Have our standards dropped so far?

Lafferty and Boyd is your favourate combination. Do you not think these are 2 too similar players and that is why Miller is preferred as he is something differnet from most of the others and therefore makes a perfect partner for and out and out striker.

Prso really helped Novo that season. Without him up front he wouldn't have got as many goals IMO.

I honestly don't think he should be starting every game but he is always great option to have. I think Walter called him his greatest ever substitute.

Unprovoked attack in order to gain approval from fickle fellow fans.

Laugh all you want.

You have made a thread in order to please people who still in all their narrow minded glory cannot accept kenny miller in a rangers jersey. :)

Really? How so? The original title of the thread is a QUESTION ;)

You, like others, got all silly defensive, and, tried to imply something thats not there, possibly because its easier than answering it

(tu) at last!

In all honesty, no, not at the moment, I think Lafferty has more about him, with regard to general play, which is a reason us, and his other clubs have played him out wide. He is also very composed (a lot of his goals arent belted, just placed into the net). The fact he has a more natural instinct when it comes to scoring makes him more dangerous, likewise with Boyd. I think, if he gets back to form, Naismith has that (he certainly did). Its not something miller has, even his biggest fans must be able to see it, he isnt a natural goalscorer, he at times looks petrified when he gets a chance.

Without even reading your opening post, i was able to tell what kind of silly thread this would be by reading the title :)
