Scott-RFC 308
Defender Bougherra has asked his national team to waive their right to force him to attend the start of their pre-African Nations Cup training camp, which begins on Dec 27. His pleas have so far fallen on deaf ears, with Algeria assistant manager Zahier Djelloul saying no exceptions would be made to the 14-day release rule. Smith said on Friday: "I think the international teams' problem is if they let one stay then they have to let quite a number of them stay to play. "We're still waiting the resolution of that but he has asked if he can stay until after the Old Firm game on January 3. "So far, he has not been given permission to do so." Smith added: "The Algerians have quite a few players playing (for clubs) in Britain and they're all going to be playing at that time. "They've all asked if they can stay and play for their clubs, so we just have to wait and see what happens there." Rangers have reportedly received a letter from the Algerian Federation ordering Bougherra's Dec 27 arrival in France. The Ibrox club play Hibs that afternoon, Dundee United three days later and Celtic on Jan 3. Having previously been Scotland manager, Smith was asked if he could see both sides of the argument. "Not really, no!" he joked. "If they reach the final, they're not back until the 3rd or 4th of February. "It's long spell away but when you sign an African player then you know that every couple of couple years you're going to have that loss. "We just have to try to accommodate the loss of the player." There have been reports that Andy Webster could be recalled from a year-long loan at Dundee United, though the precise terms of his agreement are unclear. The emergence of Danny Wilson will help make up for the loss of Bougherra, however, with Smith saying: "It does make it a little bit easier for us to lose someone like that. "But, the fact that we lose a player, we've not got that big a group of players. So it counts badly against us." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/...-Firm-game.html

Boab 73
Bougherra is awaiting an answer from Algeria coach Rabah Saadane over his plea to play in the Old Firm game. But Algerian FA president Mohammed Raouraoua expects a hardline stance from Saadane. Raouraoua said: "The law is clear. All the professionals have to join their respective national squads 14 days prior to the kick-off of the competition. "There will be no exceptions - and that includes Bougherra." http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/ho...-Firm-hell.html

Dietspam 733
Another test for Wilson then at Parkhead. This lad has been in at the deep end and barely batted an eye lid. I think he can handle it.
Gaz52 11,837
They have never beat us when Boogie has played. He simply has their pathetic little strikeforce in his back burner, bit like big Carlos did as well I honestly don't think Wilson will play, it will be Broadfoot & Weir at CB

Bluepeter9 5,167
If he goes on 17th and if Algeria get knocked out then he will miss 5 games in total if they go all the way to the final he will miss 8 games (Missed games dependant upon him returning smartly!) AGM_72 4,086
Fucking joke. It's no suprise, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating. It's not like the Algerian FA need them to get together to get to know each other, lord knows they've spent enough time with each other when Boughie should have been back at Ibrox! ClintonGrey 365
The African cup of nations is nothing less than a joke of a competition, European clubs really shouldn't bother with African players if this pish comes up every two years. Boab 73
By Andrew Dickson WALTER SMITH admits he's resigned to losing Madjid Bougherra from his squad before next month's Old Firm clash. The Algerian is due to appear in the African Cup of Nations for his country and FIFA rules dictate clubs are obliged to release their stars 14 days before the tournament. Rangers had hoped they'd be able to negotiate a deal to keep defender Bougherra at Ibrox for long enough that he could face Celtic on January 3 at Parkhead. But it seems likely his country's FA will insist he reports for international duty on December 27, meaning he'll miss the trip to Hibs that day. The tournament in Angola runs from January 10-31, meaning Bougherra could miss as many as eight Gers games if his team reaches the final. Losing the former Charlton star from his squad for the derby is obviously a blow for Smith but he's confident his men can cope without the 27-year-old. He said: "If the Algerian FA are adamant Madjid has to report on December 27, there's nothing we can do about it. "We still haven't heard anything officially from them but if we do lose him early we have other options. "We're pleased we have Kirk Broadfoot back now as he can play at centre half and young Danny Wilson has shown he is ready to play for us. "Lee McCulloch can step back and play there as well so we are well enough covered to deal with the situation." http://www.rangers.premiumtv.co.uk/article...2254024_1904322

Danny Wilson - that's it! i agree with you on mcculloch but why not broadfoot People are totally blindfolded by the fact that he flicked the ball over Aiden McGeady once, that's why. A lot of fans seem to think that he can 'handle' McGeady no bother, but I just don't see it. Except for the 4-2 game, McGeady's been all over him every time they've played. It's not just Broadfoot, it's our whole rightback situation. Regardless of net spends, we've spent £30m on players and we can choose from Whittaker or Broadfoot for that position - disgraceful. That's just at rightback. At centreback? The less said about him the better, it's schoolboy stuff.
