Whenever Jelavic is interviewed he always shows that he has the right attitude.

Also good to read further down in the article that the doctor reckons it was a straightforward procedure. Seems pretty confident about 3 months recovery which, although longer than ideal, at least means he might just be back for the next OF game at Ibrox.

Nikica Jelavic has spoken of his fury at Hearts midfielder Ian Black and the challenge that has left him facing three months on the sidelines.

The Rangers striker has undergone surgery in a Zagreb hospital to repair damaged ankle ligaments after limping off in the 2-1 victory at Tynecastle on Saturday.

The recovery period could rule £4million signing Jelavic out of action for the rest of 2010, with a best-case scenario now thought to be a return within eight weeks.

The 25-year-old was crocked by a scything tackle from Black and said he was astonished that the former Inverness player was not sent off by referee Craig Thomson.

Speaking before he went under the knife, Jelavic said: ‘I’m mad at him, of course I am angry. It was an obvious intent to hit me - he had no chance of getting the ball.

'He could have tried to stop me by pulling my shirt, but he was going to stop me any way he could.

‘It should have been a red card. Can you imagine? A yellow card for a tackle that costs me three months? But I won’t take revenge when we next play - that’s not what I am like.’

Despite his deep disappointment at a lengthy spell out of action, the former Rapid Vienna frontman pledged to return a better player for Rangers.

‘This won’t break me, I will come back even stronger,’ he insisted.

‘Even when I was younger, I had confidence I could return from injuries stronger. Now that I have so much experience from everything I have been through, I have no worries.’

Jelavic had travelled to Croatia to join up with his national squad before tests revealed the extent of the damage on his ankle. Rangers then agreed that he should remain in his homeland, with renowned specialist Dr Boris Nemec performing the surgery.

Nemec said Jelavic’s injury was similar to that suffered by fellow Croat Nico Kranjcar when Tottenham lost an FA Cup semi-final to Portsmouth last season.

‘For me this is a routine procedure and the recovery should be approximately three

months,’ said Nemec.

‘This is exactly the same kind of injury Niko Kranjcar had earlier this year. You can take old newspapers with reports of his injury in it and just copy the text and change the name to Jelavic.’

Jelavic is ineligible for the Ibrox club’s Champions League campaign, but will miss this month’s Old Firm match and a chunk of other vital domestic fixtures.

Rangers manager Walter Smith will now hope James Beattie can make a rapid return from his hip injury, while he also has the option of fielding Kyle Lafferty in his preferred centre forward role.

Aye, get well soon Jela. Hope it doesn't take anywhere near as long as 3 months to get back to fitness.

Anyone feel like smacking that wee bastard Black ? I know I do .... hope he gets pelters the next time Hearts come to Ibrox.

What's slightly worrying is that Niko Kranjcar, to whom Jela's injury is being compared, has had three serious ankle injuries in the last 2 years or something since his first one in August '08.

I really want to understand why it took Croatia's doctors to figure out there was something wrong rather than our own. If I paid 4 million for someone I would like to have them thoroughly checked out after a serious knock.

if it had swelled up then the docs cant really get a good look at it and have to let hte swelling go down, so by the time the swelling went down he may have already joined up with the croatia squad . (tu)

Although i agree with you , Croatia should have been told he wasn't fit to play and then checked out by our own docs

Unless the player pulls out of the squad himself, the club doesn't get a say if its for a competitive fixture. That is my basic understanding anyway

i think they can advise the Croatia Docter of a problem and if they come to an agreement he can stay here but the team doc might want to have a look himself and then make a decision as a couple of days can make a big difference and i think thats whats happened here .

Is this defo correct?

Sorry mate can't give that! Just based on club v country rows over the years, as suggested above club docs will advise but country docs will have final say if the player declares himself available. I think it differs for friendlies but again no fact there
