Our fitness - Adam Owen

LOL - the derisre to find someone or something to blame is incredible - there is little wrong with the fitness of our players - in fact we have (as many know and use as a critisism) won many games late on - and thats when fitness tells - late in Games, Bugger all wrong with our fitness levels. On Sunday Jelavic had missed the last game (and I assume some training) due to a groin pull - this after 4 months out and we all know it takes time to get back to full fitness. Ditto Diouf has not played a full game for a few weeks - so its little wonder the ran out of steam - but overall I dont think fitness of the squad is lacking.

Our fitness was a problem on Sunday however when you actually look at it, it's no real surprise.

Spending 80 of the 90 minutes chasing the ball is always going to take it's toll. Plus there were probably 5 players in our starting line up that are still finding their feet for one reason or another...

Weir 40 years old and is likely to tire!

Ness, out injured for a long spell and probably still building up his stamina.

Naismith not yet back to full fitness.

Jelavic just back from a lengthy lay off.

and Diouf makes his first start for us, is still getting to know how we go about things and was always likely to tire.

The fact that we can't keep possesion of the ball is the most worrying point. Celtic were patient and made us work hard for the ball, we would do well taking a leaf out of their book!

if our fitness was not up to scratch im sure adam and also the management team would know about it, giving the technology we have and also just seeing them in training every day.

giving that most teams we play now usually dictate play and we usually rely on soaking up the pressure and hitting on the break, that means our players cant conserve energy at their discretion because of the constant running around chasing their marker or getting into position while trying to constantly defend.then when we have the ball they are all galloping forward like camels pure fecked.then take into consideration players being rushed back from injury etc.

if we dictated play, passed and draged our opposition's defence and midfield all over the place it would look like their fitness was shocking and not ours.

our players should not have to rely on a fitness coach to know if they are not in shape. they will know their own bodies better than anyone else and if they were struggling in training then they will get found out during a game, letting themselves and their team mates down.a bit of individual dedication after training has finished is also important in the shape of either additional fitness training, skill work, rest, diet and staying away from alcohol.

no way is it adam owen's fault. the scape goats are building up

As has been said we should've been making other teams chase the ball, no team in the world could expend the amount of energy we do and not tire, winning games late on just shows how deep the desire goes with this squad.

It's noticeable how different the game is when we start applying pressure up the field, all of a sudden the opponents make mistakes and we have spells of possession, the tactics of sitting in with everyone tucked in is killing us and painful to watch.

Mccoist even said after the game that their full backs had too much space, we all seen this from the stands but why was nothing done to counter it?

Ness's fitness for a young man is shocking to be honest, he plays well for the 1st hour and then falls out the game. We really need to get the fitness up as a whole within the team. A few years ago that was a big thing that benefited us in the UEFA cup run. I noticed Whittaker looked fucked as well on Sunday which is not good.
