Rangers Fan Loses Arm After Falling Under Train

Recommended Posts

The identity of the man whose left arm was amputated after he was run over by a train at Perth railway station on Sunday has been revealed.

Garry Geddes, 21, from Buckie, was returning home after watching Rangers defeat Aberdeen at Ibrox on Sunday evening when the "tragic incident" took place.

After missing his bus home he decided to travel back to Moray by train with two friends.

It is understood that Mr Geddes, who works for Buckie firm Moray Firth Windows, had stepped off the 9.45pm train from Glasgow to Aberdeen when it stopped in Perth station. While trying to reboard, he slipped and fell beneath the moving carriage.

A witness to the accident said the train travelled a few hundred yards before coming to a halt.

Mr Geddes was described as being in a stable condition at Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital.

The accident is especially tragic as it is understood that the window fabricator severed the tendons in his right wrist last year during a work-related accident.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.

He added: “A 21-year-old man from Buckie slipped and fell from the platform and under the train. He suffered a severe injury to his left arm and was taken to Ninewells.”

A ScotRail spokesman added: “We are cooperating fully in the investigation into this tragic incident.”
