Car ploughs into crowd - Easter rd mid 80s

I remember a game at Easter road in early 80s,, after the game walking back to the buses not far from ground, the whole street/road full of bears.

Next minute a car comes ploughing through the crowd sending a few bears in the air. The crowd chased him down and surrounded the car.

I don't know what happened after that or how it happened in first place.

The driver was either a maniac out to maime or he may have bumped someone "accidentally" and panicked accelarating into the crowd.

It was crazy.

Does anyone remember or know what happened?

Can't remember car colour or make or whether it was disguised as a train.

Or exactly where it was. It was where you leave the ground and travelling along easter rd near edina st (see google).

I vaguely remember it being dark so it was either a midweek game or 5pm on a winter Saturday.

It probably was late 80s I left for oz in 89. Maybe 86??

PS Easter road stadium is not on Easter road??

I was there mate. There was an old fella sent flying and that's what enraged the supporters there. A load of us chased the car up Easter Road and he was forced to stop by the sheer volume of the crowd. Guys were kicking fuck out of the car and trying to get the driver out. The coppers formed a chain around the car to keep us back. I will always remember a wee guy grabbing a coppers hat off his head as he was interlinked arm in arm and could do fuck all about it. Think the driver just panicked when guys started banging his car, but he should never have tried to drive through the crowd in the first place.

Didn't mean it was on Easter road meant it was heading away from the stadium towards the city end if my memory is correct.

Yes I think it was an old guy. Landed right next to me.

The car slowed but then sped off. Not for long

Then surrounded.

I kind of stayed near the old guy whilst others helped him.

The copper and the hat would have been funny.

I think yer right thevdriver must have panicked. (that's what happens when you pass yer test and driver to a fitba game)

Hope the old guy was ok?

It was a grey Saturday,bud.

I was 20 feet behind the incident.

You are spot-on in assuming it was sheer panic that welded the driver's foot on to the accelerator.

If it happened now,we would be docked points for vehicular vandalism!
