SPL in a Hurry

Recommended Posts

If the sfl1 follow through with the threat to leave would the sfl still be due the payments from the spl.

If so, they sfl should vote to allow the sfl1 teams to leave. Then when the spl reject them they should be made to reapply to join the sfl in the 3rd division.

That is a very interesting question. Following on from which would be if the whole proposal doesn't go through and the SFL as a body still exists then the original payment for the SPL breaking away would still be due as would the TV contract money. Les Gray and his group would be in breach of SFL rules and the SPL would be seen to be abetting them in breaking these rules. This whole thing could end up being one huge clusterf**k.

Tick, tock. The clock is ticking down on a planned SFL meeting this afternoon where they have been asked by the SPL to vote on proposals from last week, whereby teams in divisions 2 and 3 will receive no extra payments from the additional monies already promised to SFL1. The SFL had offered a new model for financial distribution and the request that due diligence be carried out prior to any deal being struck. This was declined by the SPL and they want a take it or leave it vote this afternoon.

Should provide plenty talking points for this evening. Personally I hope it stays as the status quo.

Longmuir is on record saying anyway breakaway SPL2 would not receive any of the money annually given to the SFL from the SPL.

So SPL2 will never happen, those teams would be far worse off.

DL should kick them out his leagues for insubordination,. Its my ball and you're no playing anymore :cgreen:

Yes you are correct the rebel sfl1 clubs will only get SPL money if any extra the 2M will go to SFL2-3 the rebels will also loose money from the chanlange cup and the league cup (they want get as big a slice but still receive money). Or the sphell will have a rule change on the SFL 2M rule but I don't think they could aford the court case Longmuir will be water tight.

Why would the SPL want teams like Raith rovers and Morton? If they resign and reconstruction doesn't happen what happens to these idiots that resigned?

Do they go out the game altogether or will they be let back in to the SFL?

That's it though they only really want one League body then they can spread the extra money out but most the money will be our tv package and the lower league cup games with that money going to the spl and then they hand it back to sfl1. That's why the hurry

The OP makes a very valid point- it is the speed at which the SPL are trying to bully through their proposals which should immediately make any potential signatories to any deal ask for some time out.

The SPL are desperate, they are trying to force the issue, smash through any form of democratic integrity, any sense of financial fair play and have already engaged in a media campaign to undermine Longmuir. The SPL campaign is one of threat, intimidation and bribery- and on that basis alone, signing up for it is not in the interests of the game of Football in Scotland.

I hope and pray members of our board are not working in cahoots with these guy, for any short term financial game will be cost us dearly. CW sold the Arsenal shares, any board that gets into bed with the SPL on this one will be effectively selling our soul.

I hope the due diligence process is not rushed. When people wish to rush something through it is generally because they are trying to hide something- and it is rarely in the interests of the party being pressurised to sign.
