Steve Collins Comeback

Recommended Posts

Steve Collins has admitted he is always keeping in shape because of a desire to step back into the ring and defeat Roy Jones Jr. He has basically called out Jones and described him as a coward who has ran from him for years. There is a deep-seated resentment there and Collins gets a twinkle in his eye at the thought of putting Jones down.

He works with a personal trainer and goes jogging every day and therefore, as soon as he gets his wish and the fight is announced, Collins claims that it would take him ten weeks maximum to be in ring-shape. A team of trainers and corner-men are on permanent stand-by and the fight could be arranged at any time if only Jones was to finally pick up the gauntlet that has been thrown down in earnest. Collins also stated that getting a licence for the fight would not be a problem.

I am not sure of the exact age of Roy Jones Jr. (46?) and Steve Collins is 50-years old... But the fire of redemption obviously burns brightly in his chest. He doesn't rate Mayweather whatsoever because he 'never fought anyone' and obviously hold Jones Jr. in the same regard contempt. When asked if he would fight Calzaghe, he answered a resounding 'yes' but that it was Roy Jones Jr. he really wanted. Collins still speaks like a hard bastard and a true fighter.

Even though it would be a 50-year-old against a 46-year-old, it sounds like it would be a grudge match of epic proportions.

Remember, this is the guy who fought and beat Benn and Eubank. Twice.

A punch drunk yank who now has a glass jaw v an arrogant drunk who can't let go of his glory days. Fuck me a commission would be crazy to grant either a licence.

The funny thing is Collins says he doesn't miss boxing whatsoever and that it is simply a case of going after Roy Jones Jr.

Apparently that thought keeps him on his toes and 'young beyond his years' - he didn't sound like he was a man with an alcohol problem. Maybe a problem with growing old gracefully, yes... But a drunk? That wouldn't have been my conclusion.
