Yes and it is important to study this given the possible future health ramifications. I believe, from memory, they found conclusive evidence in relation to goalkeepers, since they are more prone to throwing their upper body to the ground and therefore breath in these fragments of rubber pellets.

Adults should also be studied if there is any evidence with kids. It may be less pronounced effect or take longer to develop, but it's still important as the science may impact on other areas where similar particles are ingested in other ways.

How many studies do we need?

These pitches have been surrounded in controversy since their inception on the damage they can do, particularly to young players. The cancer deal is new, but heh, don't let that stand in the way of commercialism. They have no place in the professional game and if a club cannot afford a grass pitch, then they should not be allowed entry into the professional leagues.

I can see the EPL teams being really pleased to play on them, NOT! It just wouldn't happen, not allowed, so are we any less up here? As usual the corrupt incompetents who run our game allow it to artificially keep the league numbers up and get their kick backs from these unsustainable clubs who should be nowhere near the professional game if they are so skint and of course not forgetting the perks handed out by these companies who sell them.

I've played on loads of them including Falkirk's, Stenhousemuir's, Dunfermline's old one, Alloa's and Hamilton's as well as regularly playing on several council Astro pitches across the central belt. Played on Stirling Uni's every week for 2 years with no adverse affect. I've also played on grass and red blaze pitches too.

For about 20 years or more we have been hearing that the 'next generation' of the plastic gass is the 'best ever' and far, far better than real grass.  The fact is that these pitches might be OK for certain types of training, and for 'community activities', but for real, top-level games of football they are utterly useless and quite dangerous to players' fitness.  Ban them all.
