no other name as far as i know, and have even travlled back in my doctor who time box and cant find nothing i feel that this is a trick question. :)

It sort of is.

As we know we were founded in 1873. But that was only officially. We'd existed for a year already - under what name...mystery to me.

You're very correct with your assumption, I wondered how long peope would realise the year difference.

I will be interested tio hear the answer (and source).

Wiki's not reliable so I'm not saying PiB's wrong but:

McNeil, along with fellow founding members Peter McNeil (a brother) and friends William McBeath, Peter Campbell and Tom Vallance, adopted the name Rangers, reportedly from an English rugby annual. Rangers played their first ever match against Callender F.C. at Glasgow Green's Flesher's Haugh in May 1872, which resulted in a 0-0 draw. Rangers played one more match in 1872, an 11-0 win against Clyde - not the present Clyde F.C..

The blokes who formed the team in Manticore's bit are the original founders but at the very initial stage we weren't called Rangers, even though by the time we played in our first competitive match at Glasgow Green we had adopted the name Rangers.

So maybe I was being a wee bit unfair with my question. :D

If we weren't called Rangers, surely it wasn't Rangers playing?

Pedantic response! :harhar:

No it's not.

If we weren't called Rangers, in what way was it Rangers who were playing?

Surely the team who were playing were ****** the name you're teasing us with?

Haven't got a clue, Claudio Reyna also has all the vowels but not in order. :(

Two more wee quick questions:

Can you name the original name of Rangers back in 1872?

&

Where did they play their first game?

Rangers?

Fletcher's haugh?

Nope.

Apologies Flesher's Haugh is on Glasgow Green so technically this was correct.

Only in the sense that it was the brother's and a few friends who founded the team, and they were the same people who changed it to Rangers if that makes sense.

Makes sense but if you ask me the game's a bogey - surely they weren't Rangers till they called themselves Rangers?

So:

Can you name the original name of Rangers back in 1872? Rangers

Can you name the team whose players went on to form Rangers back in 1872? Dunno.
