Boyd Pulls Out Of Scotland Squad

Recommended Posts

RANGERS striker Kris Boyd has withdrawn from the Scotland squad for this Friday's clash with the Czech Republic.

The forward, who bagged a double against Queen of the South to secure the Scottish Cup for Rangers at the weekend, is the fifth player to pull out of George Burley's squad in the last day.

Ibrox team-mates Kevin Thomson and Steven Whittaker have already withdrawn, Alan Hutton and James McFadden have also been ruled out and Steven Fletcher and Stephen McManus are struggling for fitness.

And Burley reiterated his warning to players missing out on the friendly in Prague that they risk not making the team for the opening World Cup qualifier next season.

"Boyd was here this morning but he has a tight hamstring so he will not be available," Burley said.

"Steven Fletcher didn't train because he had a bang on the chest on the last day of the season, while Stephen McManus has a groin strain.

"But he is very keen to play so hopefully he will be fit."

"It gives others an opportunity and, if they take their chance, they will be in pole position for the World Cup qualifiers."

"It's frustrating but maybe it comes with the territory. There is nothing we can do about it so it's a case of pushing on."

bit stupid saying that, Boyd was in his rights to withdraw from the squad along with the rest due to an injury, PLayers shouldnt be expected to play through injuries or knocks for friendlies

Empty threats

Does anyone actually believe that he would drop Ferguson, McAnus and Boyd just because they never played in a friendly

Its his 2nd game in charge & he has to keep the momentum going with regards to results ... it only takes a couple of losses or poor performances from his team to loose the feel-good factor that is associated with the national squad.

Personally, i am a bit pissed the KB has withdrawn from the squad, this is a guy who has played very little competative football and has complained about the lack of starts yet he is unwilling to pull on the dark blue of Scotland and help raise his profile further, on the back of a recent 2 goal display at Hampden.

If it was a proper game i would agree, but a friendly isn't anything to get annoyed about.

He'll be back for the actual thing im sure.

Burley won't have ever had his full team available to him until his first competative game. The next friendly is scheduled for near the the champions league qualifiers in august, so our boys will probably pull out again.

 Poor bugger

What did anyone expect? After all this game has been scheduled when supposedly ALL the players in the spl were on holiday or their clubs had arranged friendly tours!

Hes not withdrawing because he cant be arsed, he has a tight hamtring, its not worth risking an injury for a friendly.

Im glad he pulled out.
