Embassyno1 0 Posted October 21, 2009 Share Posted October 21, 2009 Great 2-1 victory over Glentoran yesterday Linfield 2-1 Glentoran Linfield moved into second place in the Premiership with a 2-1 defeat over rivals Glentoran at Windsor Park. Mark Miskimmin hit the bar in the second minute but Jim Ervin scored with a 29th-minute penalty after Paul Leeman brought down Michael Carvill. Miskimmin beat Elliott Morris to the ball to scoop home the second on 35 and before the break Keith Gillespie's header came off the inside of the post. Substitute Andy Waterworth tapped the ball home in the 75th minute. The Blues almost broke the deadlock when Miskimmin's early shot came off the woodwork with Morris beaten. Paul Munster headed over as Linfield dominated the game and Ervin scored from the spot to give them a one-goal lead. Miskimmin's goal extended the advantage and Gillespie almost levelled. Carvill fired a shot wide in the second half, before Waterworth slotted home from close range after Stuart Addis had palmed the ball out. A drab encounter looked destined for a draw when Munster scored in the 82nd minute after Jim Ervin's bye-line call had caught out keeper Elliott Morris. The best chance before that fell to Colin Nixon who saw his shot well saved by Linfield keeper Stuart Addis. The second leg is at Windsor Park on Tuesday, 15 December. After a 20-minute delay to allow water to be cleared from the pitch perimeter, the first leg took a long time to get going. Linfield defender Damien Curran made an important clearance to deny Nixon a great chance to score with a header in the first half. Michael Carvill was shown a yellow card for diving by referee Brian Turkington. After the break Billy Joe Burns had a shot deflected for a corner for the Blues while Munster's effort was saved. Munster was then booked for catching keeper Morris when going for the ball. Embassyno1 0 Posted December 11, 2009 Share Posted December 11, 2009 Glentoran 0-0 Dungannon Swifts Glentoran wasted the opportunity to go level on points with Carling Premiership leaders Linfield as they could only draw at home to Dungannon. Dungannon were full value for their point and could have taken all three. Shane Coney, Timmy Adamson and Mark McClean all had first-half chances while Swifts keeper Alvin Rouse denied Gary Hamilton at the other end. Rouse tipped a Jonny Black effort on to the woodwork while both teams had late efforts cleared off the line. Dungannon's Andrew Ferguson diverted a Calvin Mooney cross past Elliott Morris in the 85th minute but Daryl Fordyce hooked the ball to safety. Glentoran then produced a late flurry with Terry Fitzpatrick clearing off the line after Dean Fitzgerald had connected with a Keith Gillespie cross. In the final seconds, Paul Leeman headed straight at Rouse after Fitzgerald had nodded back a Black cross. But a goal at that stage would have been an injustice on the Swifts. Timmy Adamson should have have put the visitors ahead on the hour but he was woefully off-target after being presented with a free header with only Morris to beat. Dungannon largely bossed the opening 45 minutes with Morris having to move very smartly to block a Coney shot after the Swifts man had broken clear of the Glens defence. As was the case after half-time, Adamson also had a headed chance in the opening period when he nodded Neil McCafferty's cross a foot over the bar. Mark McClean then headed another Dungannon chance wide after Ryan McIlmoyle's cross. The Glens went close to grabbing an undeserved lead on 38 minutes when Hamilton headed a Sean Ward towards goal only for Rouse to make a superb reaction save. The Barbadian completed the stop by doing enough to unsettle Richard Clarke as the former Newry man attempt to hit the follow-up to the net. Coleraine 1-3 Linfield By Alex Gulrajani Linfield replaced Cliftonville at the top of the Carling Premiership after this impressive win at Coleraine. The visitors took the lead through Philip Lowry's low drive just after the hour mark. The Bannsiders snatched an undeserved equaliser when Stephen Dooley stroked in with just seven minutes remaining. Jamie Mulgrew fired the visitors back into the lead a minute later before Peter Thompson secured the points in the third minute of injury time. After controlling the first half, David Jeffery's side finally got their deserved lead when Steven Douglas' shot came back of the post and into the feet of Lowry. The winger controlled the ball before firing into the left corner. The Bannsiders were clearly aggrieved with referee Brian Turkington for allowing play to continue after Douglas had fouled top scorer Rory Patterson in the build up to the goal. Patterson had been uncharacteristically quiet, as Coleraine had failed to test Alan Blayney until they got a surprise equaliser in the 83rd minute. Gareth Harkin burst down the left flank, found Dooley on the edge of the area and the midfielder took a touch before slotting home to the delight of the home supporters. And Dooley could have given Davy Platt's side an unlikely lead moments later but scuffed his shot straight at Blayney. However, the visitors showed their championship credentials by responding immediately through Mulgrew. The home side failed to clear sufficiently and the ball fell to the midfielder, who volleyed past Davy O'Hare from 18 yards.
