Celtic fined by Uefa for fan disturbance

Celtic have been fined £7,300 by Uefa following crowd disturbances during their Europa League group stage match against Dinamo Zagreb.

They now have a much worse record than us, despite their campaigns. We should keep an eye on their songbook tomorrow.

Despite their claims and even the spurious fan award, they have been fined (at least*) 8 times by UEFA in the last 10 years, give or take a few months.

* Please add others if known.

  • A UEFA spokesman said: ''The body studied video footage of the incident, in which Diouf unintentionally fell on spectators. The footage showed that Diouf was touched on the head by fans while trying to stand up, and then turned and spat towards the spectators in question. ''The incident was not seen by the team of referees. In addition, two Celtic supporters tried to enter the pitch following the incident, but were apprehended by stewards. The Control and Disciplinary Body ruled that Diouf was guilty of improper conduct, but felt that the provocative behaviour of the spectators should also be taken into account as a mitigating circumstance.''

This was also the year in which they were guilty of shooting each other in Amsterdam, had planes redirected from Vigo to Cardiiff, rioted in Blackburn, trashed a Liverpool pub and stabbing each other in and around Seville. The infamous Fair Play award seems to have been a "Thanks for surprisingly not stabbing more people and not completely trashing the place." Award,.In retrospect, it seems a foolish award and one that may have given them a false sense of security relating to their fan conduct.

  • The fine in 2003 for the Dioiuf incident as listed above.
  • In March 2007, they received a nominal £420 fine for two incidents of plastic bottles being thrown towards the pitch at the San Siro Stadium during a Champions League match against AC Milan.
  • Seven months later, Celtic were found guilty of improper conduct by supporters and lack of organisation during the Champions League game against Milan at Parkhead which infamously saw one fan enter the pitch and confront visiting goalkeeper Dida.Celtic were fined £25,000 on that occasion, half of the amount suspended for a two-year probationary period, while Dida received a two-match suspension for unsporting behaviour after reacting theatrically to the incident.
  • In November 2008, a supporter invaded the pitch once more during Celtic’s home Champions League match against Manchester United. Uefa found Celtic guilty of improper conduct and fined them £42,400.
  • In November 2011, a sanction of £12,700 was imposed for illicit pro-IRA chants during a Europa League home game against Rennes.
  • The following month, a section of the Celtic support at the Europa League tie in Udinese unveiled a banner with the message “F*** Uefa” and let off flares shortly before kick-off, leading to a £21,000 fine.
  • Earlier this season, another improper conduct charge for fireworks being let off at the Champions League qualifier at home to Cliftonville resulted in a £4,200 fine.
  • Celtic have now been fined £42,000 (50,000 euro) by Uefa for "illicit" banners at the home defeat by AC Milan.

TGFITW?

Quite a list, eh?

Apparently we can add Rekjavik and now Zagreb to the list.

10 penalties in 10(ish) years.

It's an annual thing. They must have a UEFA official in Sion purely employed to deal with their pish when you think about the email campaigns about us. They've even been emailing UEFA when we're not in Europe to try get someone other than the Corduroy Crusader to validate their specious "new club" pish.

I was watching that Peter & Rougy football show thing on STV last night and that Bertie Auld was on it, complete timfest. Anyway he went on to say "Just you watch that support, the greatest twelth man known to man, amazing support"

So amazing that they've received countless fines in the matter of a few years, in fact, they are probably the worst support you could have in Europe as unlike the SFA, UEFA don't have their tongues up Celtic's arses and aren't afraid to punish them for what they are.

Amsterdam disorder: Five Celtic fans guilty of using violence

Five Celtic fans have been found guilty of using violence against Dutch police ahead of the club's game against Ajax.

At a court in Amsterdam, Padraig Mullen, 28, and Damian Dobbin, 23, were jailed for two months, Thomas Kennedy, 30, and Andy Vance, 21, for six weeks and Joseph McPherson, 20, for a month.

All five were released immediately pending an appeal. John Quigley, 49, was acquitted due to lack of evidence.

The court awarded damages of between €250 and €500 to four injured officers.

The judge said police had used force in dealing with the riot on 6 November, but it had not been excessive.

'Going home'

He said the men should have left Dam Square when trouble erupted, but instead they reacted by using violence.

The men, who had denied the charges against them, are free during the two-week period in which they can appeal.

Leaving Amsterdam District Court on Thursday, Dobbin told the BBC he was pleased "to be going home."

During the hearing, the fans on trial said they believed they were being attacked by hooligans when they were arrested by undercover police officers.

One told the court the police acted in a heavy-handed way.

Dobbin said six or seven police came from nowhere and used terrible violence.

He said he believed he was fighting for his life.

Fans 'provoked'

Dutch Police said eight undercover officers were injured during violent clashes in the city centre.

During the disorder, police made 44 arrests. Of the 28 Celtic supporters held, 22 were freed - 10 without charge and 12 after paying fines.

Some of the disorder was said by police to have been sparked by Dutch fans getting hold of a flag which Celtic supporters had.

Celtic Football Club said there was "no excuse for any form of violent conduct" but stressed that many fans had been "subjected to a high degree of provocation".

The club has launched its own investigation into the disorder.

Some Celtic fans have also been collating footage, images and personal accounts, which they say support the view that undercover police attacked them and used heavy-handed tactics.
