govanblue 16,847
Get in, ya beauty. So the Sponsors' Fund, as winners of the cheque, have donated £500 of it to the RM Erskine Fund. Cos they're nice like that. They'll also donate £100 to Rangers Charity Foundation, via our 5 Intrepid RM Ibrox Sleep Out Members. Meaning those 5 Members can now count on at least £40 each of sponsorship money from us (we've already pledged £100) - plus whatever else I can squeeze out of you all come December! The remaining £400 will go back into RDF in the form of more Lotto tickets, Rising Stars, Bricks, and whatever else they have for us.Hope that's okay with everyone. Feel free to PM me if you have any thoughts on the matters. Bears r us

Not only does this group purchase tickets to ensure residents are able to attend all league and cup games at Ibrox but they have taken on the role of Fairy Godmother by sponsoring wishes on our Wishing Tree.Residents have enjoyed a special meal at Lomond Shores, a sail on the steam ship The Sir Walter Scott on Loch Katrine and a trip on the steam train at Bo’ness. These are only a few of the wishes that have become a reality thanks to the generosity of this group. govanblue 16,847
GB for us intrepid loonies how do we account for the £40 on our paying in sheets? You don't need to do anything. RCF have the details of our 5 Participants. I will send RCF the £200 next month, and then once you submit the money that you've raised yourself, they will add £40 on to your final figure, and confirm your final figure to you.I'll be starting a new thread next week, whereby any RM Members who wish to contribute to this great cause by sponsoring our 5 Participating Members can simply donate a couple of quid to the Fund, and we will pass it on to RCF. It would be nice if we could match the £200 from the Fund with £200 raised from the 238 Fund Members. That's less than a pound each!
BRITNEY IS NOT FEELING IT 8,293
Lost Erskine Hospital archive to be catalogued Historical documents and artefacts from an old hospital, some of which were found underneath floorboards, are to be formally catalogued. Some of the archive, charting the 100-year-history of the Erskine Hospital, was recently found in a locked room in a disused part of the hospital. The hospital was formerly known as the Princess Louise Scottish Hospital for Sailors and Soldiers.Woodworking tools used to make prosthetic limbs are among the archive. The tools were used by some of the recovering soldiers as part of their rehabilitation and training in new skills. They made a wide range of wooden medical appliances for disabled soldiers, including the then pioneering Erskine Leg - a prosthetic limb designed and pioneered by Sir William Macewen, co-founder of the hospital and Regius Professor of Surgery at the University of Glasgow Sir William's work led to a global advancement in prosthetic limbs. The archive contains a full collection of wooden shoe-size moulds used in the workshops for the manufacture of prosthetic legs.It is not known how long the objects and archive material had been stored in the building, but some items date back to the original founding of the hospital which celebrates its centenary next year.Additional records and documents were kept in boxes in various rooms throughout the hospital. The collection will now be catalogued by Glasgow University's Archives Services and stored at the university.Erskine are currently working on a patient database of every soldier admitted and discharged at the hospital during its history, which will become a research resource for families tracing their ancestry. The project has been funded by the Wellcome Trust which awards grants to libraries and archives to support cataloguing, preservation and digitisation projects.Steve Conway, chief Executive of The Erskine, said: "Archiving records and preserving artefacts was never high on the priority list until we started to prepare for our centenary. It was only then that we realised how much of our history had been recorded but largely neglected."Hopefully, these records and artefacts will help people to research family histories and also support research in to the care of veterans with physical or mental injuries sustained in the service of their country." Leg searchDr Tony Pollard, senior lecturer in history and battlefield archaeology at Glasgow University, said: "What we are unearthing at Erskine is quite remarkable."There are boxes upon boxes of wartime history which will shine a light on so many personal stories of bravery and endurance during the First World War, but also the incredible advancement in the treatment of injured personnel not just physically but mentally since 1916. "This archive will not only chart the hospital's history but also provide an insight into the many medical developments over the last century, methods which helped change care practices towards casualties of war around the globe."I am quite certain once we really start to delve into the vast collection, the findings will be used in research for many years to come."The archive team is appealing for help to find an original Erskine Leg.Only one known Macewen-designed Erskine Leg survives in the British Museum, but archivists and historians at the University of Glasgow are convinced there are more. Amazing place , with a great history Brilliant! We can expect next year to be a bumper year for Erskine. It might make our small contribution seem insignificant in comparison, but I'm guessing that most of the money raised next year will be going into the Erskine Central Funds, so there will still be a need for the bespoke Recreational Support that we can supply direct to the Front Line in our own distinctive way.
