I am not saying that that is all down to Bates, but he seems to be a positive influence on the team and usually gets one of the higher ratings in reviews of Hamburg games. Smashed the mouthy captain of St Pauli twice and the fans now love him.. If he learns more of the game whilst in Germany he may well become a decent no frills centre half. We of seen him make a few mistakes already so hopefully the management of being working to sort his defensive lapses out.
