Imagine nipping into your local for a pint and finding Gerrard sitting there

Was in Babbity Bowsers in the Merchant City years ago and he was in with a bunch of his mates from home - think they came to Glasgow a fair bit as it was easier  and less hassle than nights out in Liverpool. Not sure where he goes now to escape attention!!

  2. Think the first few rounds can be considered competitive pre season games which probably help in getting us up to speed for the league. Group stages bring revenue and can attract players to come to the club. Longer term success, means better co-efficient for when we get back to the Champions League.

Anyone know when the draw for the first round is made??

Quality is going to cost us money not only to buy but to pay a wage. All the names you have mentioned are at best squad players  We are losing arguably one of our best players in Kent and every chance our top striker in Mo, so let’s get past this nonsense that we don’t need money spent. We need serious money spent on at least 4 or 5 top quality signings that will walk into that first team

We have had a great finish to the season but let’s not forget some of shit shows we produced this season as well.

I don't think anyone is saying we don't need to spend this summer to compete

There's clearly no way the club could go into next season with only Defoe as an out and out striker (if Mo, and undoubtedly Lafferty leave). Though, I have a (maybe unrealistic) feeling that we might not see Morelos leave simply because he probably needs to address his disciplinary record if he wants a transfer to a top flight club and he can do that more effectively here under Gerrard in a team that is clearly moving forward. But even if he does stay, we need to significantly strengthen at both 9 and 10 - and it will likely not come cheap

Like most, I like Kent, but if he leaves I think Murphy/Jones and Middleton provide adequate cover - and I think they all have the potential of being strong contributors on a regular basis. Biggest concern for me, alongside a credible 10 though is cover at centre back and finding a proper left back who can defend  - though whether we have to spend big on that will really depend on how effective we are in the scouting department or in negotiating loans.

I doubt the club are in a position to go much beyond the 5M mark for any position so my expectation is that signings are likely to be more focussed on out of contract players and perhaps from a few of the markets, like Croatia, that we have tapped before.

They are champions because they have the squad to be consistent.

We have a good 11 or 12 but no team can keep those same players on the pitch for a full season we badly need strength in depth to win the league and that costs money.

That's definitely true - though we have the likes of Jamie Murphy, Jordan Jones and the lad Hastie in the squad for next season - maybe Docherty too. And you have to hope a couple of the younger players from the reserves can make the step up.

I do think you're right though that money will have to be spent but Gerard has proved that he can get quality players in at a fraction of the cost of the signings celtic have made - and they can be of superior quality. I think he's also proved to many clubs down south that quality loans will get game time and significantly improve with the experience they can get at Ibrox.

Confident we can take a further step forward, whether that's to 55 will depend a lot on what they do as much as what we are able to build. Interesting times ahead!!

  5. Far more physical than I expected, bullied the midfield and absolutely dominated Mulumbu. Lot of energy and good distribution. And doesn't mind getting in players faces without drawing the attention of the refs

Can see him being ever present for the rest of the season

Be interested to know if club ambassador falls under the SFA disciplinary remit.....

No recognised football body, club, official, Team Official or other member of Team Staff, player or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA, shall in an interview, a ‘blog’ on the internet, on a social networking or microblogging site, or in any other manner calculated or likely to lead to publicity (i) criticise the Decision(s) and/or performance(s) of any or all match official(s) in such a way as to indicate bias or incompetence on the part of such match official; or (ii) make remarks about such match official(s) which impinge on his character. For the avoidance of doubt this Rule applies (i) whether reported to the Scottish FA by a match official for Misconduct or otherwise, and (ii) where remarks are brought to the Scottish FA’s attention, or of which the Scottish FA becomes aware, by whatever manner or means. There shall be a presumption that any material published in such manner was published in the name of and/or with the authority of the person or body bearing to have published the material.

The level of paranoia is unreal on their official channels. I watched the first twenty or so minutes of their game v Hamilton a few weeks back on a reddit stream that had the station marked as Somali TV - but I assume from the commentary was lifted directly from the official celtic TV stream - and on a couple of occasions they directly said that referees were against them and then, after a Hamilton player was brought down, clearly said Dougie Imrie was a player who was know for diving.  At the time I was amazed at the bias but the more you think about it - this is surely an official celtic spokesperson calling referees and opposition players cheats. Which based on your definition above is clearly a breach.

I watch a fair amount of games on Rangers TV when I'm working away - and have never heard anything like the paranoia and bias I heard in twenty minutes of that game!

  7. Dundee have just taken  a new mid on loan, so wouldn't be surprised to see them take the 50 K offer - that plus not having to pay his wages for the rest of the season would seem like a decent deal given their circumstances

  8. Thought the second half was poor but it was really all about game/clock management, avoiding injury and giving a few players game time. Last night was the type of game where bigger teams can easily become unstuck and I never really felt that we were in danger of losing.

Think there is a massive overreaction by some to the contribution and Davis though - both players are working with a new system and getting use to their teammates strengths and weaknesses - Defoe beat the off side trip three or four times and was pulled back on at least two occasions by poor decisions by the linesman. Davis for me brings a bit more solidity to the midfield that I like - it's not flashy, but it's just consistently good play.

Looking forward to Saturday to see what they look like on a decent surface and with a bit of game time under their belts.

Like it or not this club has strong links to the Orange Order, indeed I well remember going to Ibrox to welcome back the ECWC side and they were led round the pitch by an Orange Band. We have a fan base in NI which we should be cherishing rather than distancing ourselves from, the 12th is a holiday in the province and the biggest religious gathering in Scotland. Your claim that it’s celebrated by only a small  section of the support, I’ve been a member of 4 different RSCs and in every one of them the vast majority celebrated the 12th with many either marching in, or supporting the parades

If you read what I wrote - I said that it was a minority view that the club were pandering to minority groups by being inclusive. The majority of the fan base would welcome all to the support.

I didn't mention the Orange Order at all - having been a season ticket holder for 40 odd years I'm well aware of the culture of the support in this regard

I should have probably responded to this as a courtesy, as it's a long post. Fair enough if the event isn't exclusive - i.e. just for ethnic minorities.

My problem is pandering to other groups. - e.g. 'Happy Eid' tweets, when there are none for the Glorious Twelfth. The club has it's history and culture, and I like it that way. At the same time it should be welcoming to anybody who's not offended by that.

Eid, Hanukkah and Chinese New Year are major holidays and/or the key religious dates for a specific religion - the club tweets out a traditional greeting on these days as they see themselves, and actively want to be, an inclusive club (as do I). The club also tweets out Happy Christmas (for Christians) and Happy New Year (for everyone), so basically we have tweets which pretty much covers off the majority of the fan group.  If you view it as pandering, then I don't think you actually understand the history and culture of the club - perhaps it is the mentality of a very small section of the support, but it's certainly not one that the club holds, or to be honest the majority of the support.

Rangers have always welcomed everyone to the fold -  why this would upset anyone is something I genuinely struggle to comprehend.

  11. Oli's been a Rangers fan since being a kid and comes from a proper Rangers family. Sat beside his dad at the Mexico v Scotland game in the summer - absolute top bloke and a dyed in the wool bluenose. Had no idea who he was at the time and why he was at the game - proper strong Leeds accent and quite a youngish looking bloke - was amazed when he said Oil was his boy.  Asked him if Oli would sign for Rangers at some point and he was saying it would be his dream to see him come here but that basically for the moment his lad was just keeping his head down and working hard to make it wherever he can. Seems to be a very grounded family, very proud of their Scottish and Rangers connections. So hopefully one day he'll get the chance to see his son play at Ibrox.

anderson was sentenced to life for the Brighton bombing, the attempt to assassinate the Thatcher cabinet, of course lily-livered do gooders had her released early !

If we're going to do the pish posting a picture with someone meeting someone at a function = undying support, then I'll raise you the Queen and McGuiness and I can get another with Prince Charles having a cup of tea with his buddy Gerry.

And my point isn't about politics - I wouldn't discuss my politics on a football message board - it's more about this crap being in the Bears Den.

  13. This is shaping up to be a very good transfer window already (assuming Defoe and Davis deals are both done). Whether Kamara and Jones come in now or in the summer they immediately strengthen the squad - though I would expect to see at least Dundee offered an incentive to let Kamara go now. Jones adds width and while not a like for like swop for Kent, we probably all have to accept that he isn't going to be here on a long term basis so finding players that can add competition out wide to Candeias and Middleton and/or strengthen the bench (for free) is an excellent move.  Be really interesting what Jones can do with a couple of good strikers to feed?

Plus, if you've ever seen Oliver Burke live, you'll realise that this has been a really great window for us!!  😀

  14. Lad I know in the States told me a full year before our financial meltdown that it would happen and painted the whole scenario pretty much as it eventually played out - and I thought he was talking absolute bollocks. Saw him over there this summer and he said Rangers had more a lot money available than anyone thinks - likewise, I thought he was talking utter pish - but he works in a senior role in the financial sector and is absolutely no fan of Rangers. So who knows, maybe there is something in it??
