No you do not have to hate catholics, but at the same time, what is the problem of people being proud of our culture. If people are not interested of our culture, then fine, but they should also let people who are proud alone, as long as they are not being bigoted.

The Billy Boys, for example.....was never a problem, was on official club LPs etc, and never mentioned fenian blood or the like. This sort of thing needs to be hammered home to people.....and I hold my hands up as one who has belted out the bastardised version for 30 odd years, and still do.
The old club songs never mentioned hatred or fenians. We don't need to like these cunts, but do we need to sing about them?

The ruling monarch has no say in the Church of Scotland, the only appointment the kirk makes is to name a moderator each year and he/she has no official powers, he/she is only the spokesperson for the Kirk. The leader of the Church of Scotland is Christ, the clergy are all equal and appointed by the members of each parish or church. The older buildings that used to be Cathedrals (such as Dunblane) are not Cathedrals anymore because a Cathedral has to have a bishop and of course there are no such appointments to the church of Scotland. They are officially "High Kirks". I am often amazed at those who profess the greatest hatred for the church of Rome while espousing Scottish Protestantism have little to no idea of the emunical differences between the two. And this is where Scots Protestantism is SOOOO different from that in England, the English Church is in reality was just a political split, the Scottish one was/is based on differences in the set up of the church and ways to worship one of the most important being that services should be conducted in English and that all people should be able to read the bible for themselves with Clergy being a guide or a teacher, not a dictorial authoritarian figure telling the flock what passages mean. And this reading of the bible was NOT gender specific. This led to the transformation of Scotland from being one of Europe's poorest countries to being the WORLDS first literate society,
These are the things we SHOULD be espoucing NOT hatres of a silly wee man in Rome who wears a dress and is so far out of touch with reality, further the biggest bigots on each side of the Old firm divide will have been in a church mibbees 3 times, their Christening, their marriage and their funeral. Organised religion through churches is dying a sure death on both sides.
So while I champion Rangers rich Scottish Protestant heritage I see no need to promote this as hatred for Catholics, espouce it by promoting our own positive rich culture and Heritage, Sing the Sash, Derry's Walls and The Cry, but leave out the add ons, there is just no need and without them we promote the hsitory and culture with the overthrow of a bigoted religion, with them it makes us no better than them.

Mate, I understand where you're coming from. I was brought up in a Rangers supporting loyalist family. I've sang every song and been in more than a few confrontations in my youth with the tims. I'll never forget that nor do I want to.
However I've served with guys who are catholic, some of them Celtic supporting Scottish catholics and some of those have given their life for our country - one in my presence.
I support Rangers, I'm proud of this fact just as I'm proud of all the heritage and history of our club. But at this time of my life I'll not be a hater of someone because of an accident of birth. If they do me or my club wrong then fair enough, I'll respond in kind. Neither will I condemn fellow supporters who have none of the history that I have because they only want to concentrate on the football, that's their choice and I respect that.

In the hope that this may be a serious thread on the subject, I can only give my own perspective - without feeling the need to criticise or rubbish someone elses that may be different.
Like many on here, I was brought up to ignore all things green - we didnt have green clothes, talk to anyone who went to a chapel, and papacy was just never recognised or spoken about.
Then I left home for London at 16. Different when your not actually 'in it' and the guy beside you (who may be a taig) will be the one to save you. That causes a few different thoughts to pass through your mind.
Its not so black and white then.
I know my roots. I will never disown them.
But I will mature and alter my thinking to take account of everything I have learned throughout my life.
Do I want to force my son down the same road? Thats between me and him.
But I AM a Ranger.

My opinion, for what it's worth, is that the Rangers support is a broad church.
There's no doubt that Unionism and Protestantism is part of our heritage but only part of it.
There will be many good Rangers fans who have no interest in these aspects and are only interested in the football heritage and history.
There should be room for all of us.

As another loyalist thread in the BD gets derailed by the usual taig apologists it doesn't take a genius to work out why we are bent over a table and getting pumped by anybody who fancies taking a shot. From the Orange parades at Ibrox to our favourite songs being banned we have been attacked and picked off from any and every angle. The hatred I have for our enemies is rarely surpassed and is completely justified as I am sure many will agree.
I am however becoming increasingly restless with another of our enemies. The same enemy who attack the loyalist threads and grass bears to the stewards for singing songs (I know at least one member of this forum has done that) are at least 50% to blame for our current predicament (no I'm not talking about our finances). The same enemy is the people who believe everything they read in the Record and here spewed on radio snyde. The same enemy who pander to the bullshit about no Newco and no history. The same enemy who we sit beside at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon.
