Agree, negotiations is not the manager or head coaches job, They should only be brought in in the latter stages, to speak to the player personally And perhaps to clinch the deal.

I have a family member who is involved with a championship side down south. The way the the signing process works with them is- Manager/ head coach identify the need to strengthen a certain position in the team, Head of football operations/ technical director will give him three different options of players In that position and within the budget. Players will be persued in a first, second and third choice order. Seems to work for them.

In games like these you are looking for your 'experienced' players to deliver. Shiels was awful, Foster was a disgrace so was Law. Odd decision not to bring on Gallacher instead of Clark for Shiels.
