  1. Davie was rock solid for us all last year, he's 39yrs old two games in two days against top opposition. Its the pre season. GET OFF HIS BACK FOR FFS HE DOESN'T NEED THE EXTRA WEIGHT.
  2. The whole problem can be summarised in one word " MONEY " or lack of it. Every team in Scotland suffers from it, as soon as a young player comes through he is either grabbed by the OF or the EPL and so the bottom teams lose someone who may give them an edge and so attract better crowds. If they go to the EPL the scottish game as a whole loses. But to say we are at a Welsh standard is utter pish. I have watched scottish football fropm the early 60's and while we don't seem to have the personalities we once had the standard of football is very much improved. People forget we are a nation of approx. 5 million people and we are talking about competing against England with around 60M and Spain, Italy and France with I'm not sure how many but at least as many as England which all eqates to bums on seats and MONEY. So stop bitching and whinging and just accept that this is where we are at and the clubs are doing their best and need all the support they can get, not continual negative criticism.
  3. I am new to RM also. Found it during the off season although I have followed RFC for 50yrs although unfortunately/fortunately depending on how u look at it from Australia. Have only been able to keep up with news via the media and RFC official site and latterly with Setanta which is not the same as being at Ibrox. So far I've been very impressed with the range of opinions on RM and the sense of humour and camraderie among members. Thanks.
  4. Oh FFS get over it. We won the double, what more do you want.
  5. In what way is the Sash bigoted? The sash is about a symbol of the Orange Lodge and if thats not an anti catholic organisation I don't know what is. You obviously know fuck all about the Orange Order then. What you're trying to tell me the Orange Lodge is not anti catholic. It may now on the surface portray itself as a organisation doing charitable works etc. But it was initially formed in 1688 after the battle of the diamond and assisted William of Orange at the battle of the Boyne in 1690. Part of the initiation ceremony into the degree of the Royal Arch Purple is anti catholic. So don't try and tell me the Orange Order is not anti catholic. While the words of The Sash in themselves are not bigoted they are sung by Orangemen and others on the 12th Of July as a taunt to catholics which only incites hatred.

  7. A very interesting thread. I too am a 61 year old Rangers supporter and have been since I was 10 yrs old. I was raised as a member of the Church of Scotland, went to bible classes, sunday school and church until I,along with my family emigrated to Australia. I went to Ibrox on a few occasions to watch my heroes, but at times was confused by some of the adults there who seemed more intent on singing the sash, the billy boys and every other bigoted chant they could rather than watch the game. It seemed to be of secondary importance to spewing out bile against catholics and we weren't even playing celtic. I am now what has been described in earlier posts as a plastic proddy, I believe in God but not in any of the accepted conduits for reaching him. I have read numerous books on Scottish history from the time of Wallace through to "The History of the Working Classes of Scotland" by Tom Johnston. What I see throughout the history of Scotland is mans inhumanity to man and we don't need much of a reason to fight with our neighbours. The atrocities perpetrated by men on each other in the name of God by both Catholic and Protestant turns my stomach and I have no doubt turns the stomach of God ( if he can still be bothered with us ). Reading the posts you can see there are some hardline bigoted people still support Rangers but there others that are starting to see reason. This bigotry on both sides will never stop until one side is big enough to stop it and I would like to think that it could be us. Rangers are primarily a football team started by protestants, we I think, are the best team in Scotland and one of the best in Europe and we can emphasise that position by being the bigger human beings and supporters and putting a stop to sectarianism within our club.
  8. Would be great to see these young blokes get a run in that formation. With Aaron to come off the bench for Naisy.
  9. Just goes to show we do have a sense of humour. Unlike some of the small minded fu-- wits that have nothing better to do with their time and newspapers who will print anything that sells newspapers.
  10. He may have no choice . If he doesn't make any new signings and we get any injuries. Which is very probable given the amount of games we are going to play and knowing Millers dodgy hamstring, Bougherra playing in WC qualifiers, Edu not guaranteed to be fit for a while and also with qualifiers.
  11. Alexander deserves the gloves to start the season. Its up to MacGregor now to put pressure on Neil and to prove he deserves to be No1.
  12. I agree if we have no money to spend on new blood. Walter will have to use the young stars. Who knows if they are ready or not until we give them a go. Fleck did well in the few games he played last year even although he was out of position and the same with Aaron he looked alright in the few runs he got. We were all saying the same about Edu bat after an extended run in the first team everyone is now singing his praises. IMO we have no choice but to give them a try and they might just be the new super stars we are waiting for.
  13. Interesting idea. Obviously SDM sees a television consortium as a better outlet for his spare cash than RFC, pity. What i want to know is if this deal goes ahead will we Bears in the colonies still be able to watch our team the same as we could with Setanta.
  14. [size="4]IF and I say IF these reports are true its not the end of Rangers as some seem to be thinking. I doubt Walter will sell his best CB without having someone lined up e.g. Tonel. But Magic is worth more than 5Mill if Bordeaux want him let them pay for him at least 6Mill then 2Mill for Tonel is not too bad. I can understand SDM trying to get us out of debt, because to sell the club debt free is a better selling point, if he actually wants to sell. Surely there is some multi millionaire out there who would want to buy GLASGOW RANGERS FC worldwide fan base and exposure, just about guaranteed Cl exposure and money every year. Preferably someone who is a Rangers Fan or at least knows something about football, which would make a nice change. Seriously how much do we realistically believe Rangers is worth on the market, no sentimental bullshit, realistic price??
  15. Easily Thompson. When he was playing with Mendes and Davis we were brilliant in the midfield. Can't wait to see that again.
  16. Manager - Walter Smith Goalkeeper - Andy Goram Defender - Richard Gough Midfield - Jim Baxter Forward - Ally McCoist
  17. Couple of weeks back we had a lotto prize of $A90M in OZ and believe if I had won it I would have invested $A20M in Rangers. So if small fry like me could do why not someone with serious money. As has been said we may not be the richest club but as for prestige, history and worldwide fans, its possible.
  18. Graeme Souness's comment at the time " If a player is good enough to wear the shirt I don't care what his background is" was spot on we are a football team and our sole purpose is to win games and I pesonally don't give a flying fuck if we sign auld Nick himself if he does the job and he doesn't cost too much. All these supposed fans who carried on like weans over the signing of Mo Johnston and Kenny Millar were more concerned with religion than RFC. Religion is the greatest disease known to man.
  19. Lucas Neill is not such a silly idea. He has been released by WHU not on transfer and he has also been linked with teams down under in OZ where he definately won't get 75,000 a week so maybe at his age the wages will be a lot, lot lower. He would be a good aquisition to fill in at centre back for Davie.
  20. I think your prices are very optimistic. But why would you sell the top three on your list but keep chaff like Broadfoot and McCulloch. I understand about balancing the books and all that but !! I agree WS needs to give some of the young players you mentioned a run in the first squad. Never know we might just have some real talent in our own back yard given the opportunity to shine. Yes 4-3-3 is the way to go
  21. Thanks and sorry about the typo. Must have got lost on its way from Autralia.
  22. Alexander Whittaker Boughera Weir/ Wilson Papac Thompson Davis Mendes Fleck Millar Boyd A good 4 3 3 system Wilson to cover for Davie as he's not getting any younger regardless of how well he did last year. Thompson is a defensive midfielder and would be suited to that position. Davis and Mendes speak for themselves. Fleck plays his best sitting in behind the frontmen and Millar and Boyd play so well off each other. We will need quality to cover for all positions with all the games we have to play. With Novo, Aaron, Lafferty, MacGregor and Edu on the bench its a good squad.
  23. Broadfoot should be sold as soon as he is fit. To ever is daft enough to pay good money for him. Never was and never will be good enough for Rangers.
