Really? So because you managed to play sunday league football and drink, alcohol now has no effect on the body at the elite level of athlete? Because that flies in the face of everything we know about medical science, even several pints a week can have a correlation on performance, we aren't talking about me or you here. We are talking about professional athletes, people who are paid to be the fittest and best their body can be. To me, your attitude is just symptomatic of the poor relationship with alcohol we have in this country, and probably explains to a point why so many young footballers in this country fail when they try to advance their career.

Alcohol can be a part of that as well. Speak to anyone with a background in medicine and they will tell you that at a high level alcohol and severely affect your body. Hence why most athletes across the world these days rarely drink often, or don't drink at all

The fact that people see 'having a life' as a professional athlete going out and putting poison in themselves is a sad reflection on the culture of our country. Many top footballers in this world would look at '6 or 7 pints' in disgust, especially if its a regular thing
