  1. Player Name McGregor 6. Played his way into trouble by nearly gifting Hearts an equalizer at the start of the second half, lucky to see the ball come straight to him. Broadfoot 6. Solid and quietly effective at times but had some great "comedy" moments as always.....this cant continue. Bougherra 8. Another shout for MotM today as he did his defensive duties well and apart from a dodgy moment he saved us a couple of times, looks a good signing. Weir 6. Pace let him down badly at times but was solid enough in the challenge. Papac 7 . Continuing the good form he has shown from last season and is beginning to become a greater threat in the final third. McCulloch 4. Injured himself when going in for a tackle. Flufffed a good chance and then got subbed. Poor game. (Agreed) Thomson 6. Didnt try anything over zealous today and played the simple game well, seemed to thrive under the presence of the new man. harsh booking. Mendes 8. Killed the ball dead with his first touch, set up his game nicely. This is a bit of class we expected from him and we got it, this has been sorely missed over the last two years. MotM Lafferty 7. Well taken goal by the big man who never shy's away from taking on his man. Good movement and chased the ball down, should be given a shot in his TRUE POSITION. Boyd 4. Anonymous, when his chances came he was too slow and lacklustre in the finish and was saved by the fact Miller won a penalty, say what you want be he didnt deserve his goal today, very poor show. Velicka 4. Put himself about a lot more than Boyd today and won some free kicks. The partnership with Boyd wont work due to similarities but I believe he should have stayed on instead of Boyd. Substitutes Miller 6. Replaced McCulloch and offered pace, movement and directness. Won penalty after an excellent run. (Agreed) Beasley 6. Good pace and never scared to take on a man. Set up a few great chances and might have bagged one for himself. Darcheville 4. Not enough time to impose himself.(agreed) Manager Team Selcetion 6. The front pairing and the inclusion of McCulloch can be much debated, we lacked pace in the forward role but didnt cost us. Tactics 7. Far more football played today, mainy due to Mendes's playmaking ability.(Agreed) Substiutes 7. Wrong striker came off today I feel but didnt matter. Miller and Beasley's pace should have been offered earlier but definitely made the impact they should.
  2. Yeah there is no debate here but I think next week our midfield will read.... Davis(RM)_______Thomson________Mendes_______Beasley(LM)
  3. To be fair we knew what we were getting before he played But was great to see, his first touch today completely killed the ball and that said it all for me.
  4. Was terrific when he came on today and won the penalty to clinch the game! He should have been allowed to hit over the once more anonymous Boyd.....only way he was scoring today was if someone won a penalty for him! I think after his runs and workrate today he may have won a few more doubters over
  5. I dont think Boyd will start tomorrow!
  6. I just love it when stories are published of this quality....why I chose Celtic over Rangers! Well the thing to remember here is that he never had a choise of who he was going too only to the team who had a bid accepted. It will give THEM something to cream themselves over as it just seems as if he had the choise to play for either and chose THEM. Frankly Glenn you were not good enough for the price that was offered and we didnt come in to anywhere near that just his market worth, enough said! I think I speak for everyone when I say Pedro Mendes @ £3Million is money much better spent!
  7. Thats who you spend £3million on Thats a class signing....better than davis imo!
  8. Look i'd have signed him, he looks good but not at the £3mil THEY are paying! This is the Lawell mentality of we'll pay that extra bit.....well go right ahead! A player in the championship who is probably on about 10k a week and they wanted that much for him....no chance if you ask me especially in the LAST YEAR of his contract! They paid it to get at us and believe me their welcome to him, sure I want us to spend money but not be held at ransom! Glad we didnt pay that!
  9. Fair interview and I haven't blamed him in the midst of our situation, its the managers fault for the Kaunus loss, thats all! All the money goes into player transfers from Cuellars deal He wants out but wont give us to anyone....plus nothing has been offered to him! He is spot on and I cant blame him for seeming slightly annoyed! He will find us the right buyer not any buyer....
  10. ___________________McGregor____________________ _______________Weir____Boughera_____________ Whitaker____________________________________Papac _______________Hemdani____Thomson_____________ Esclapez____________________________________Beasley _______________Velicka_____Lafferty_________________ Team I want to see on Saturday!
  11. Yeah and im just hoping they dont take the piss with this one thats all! Add him to the right flank with Beasley on the left and we'll have damn good pace up there and the desire to beat a man :o
  12. But maybe he really got confused and meant spain haha!
  13. Yeha but does anything with smith surprise you?
  14. And you'll think he'll really play?! I bloody hope so haha!
  15. I agree with that, this summer @ £19million would constitute major surgery to the squad and if this were to happen then I would expect the trophy as we wont have the problems faced last year in the form of Fixture Conjestion and the like....
  16. OK guyes if Smith goes out and spends £2.5Million on Loovens, £3.5Million on Davis and £4Million on Brescianno or a similar player you wouldnt be too happy? Miller £2million (ok no-one likes that one) Velicka £1million Lafferty £3.5million Bogherra £2.5million Add the 3 mentioned above and I would be fairly happy with that summer spending, a total of £19 million and a decent few players to boot. Lafferty looks decent, Bogherra had a god debut, Velicka I feel has potential to be better than Boyd.....*tin hat on*, Miller is actually useful as a worker. So Give me Loovens as another central defender to replace Weir as he IS TOO OLD, Davis back in the engine room.....but he would play on the wing I bet and another quality midfielder, id be happy with that!
  17. Yeah i dont think he was that bad when he was playing for us last year but McGregor is certianly No.1! Though to be fair he made an awful mistake versus Kaunas, I would expect anyone to save that freekick it was shocking!
  18. I dont know he has the attraction of playing in Europe at Motherwell.....ok probably still too early to joke about that. Wouldn't be a bad signing, young lad who can certianly play! Definately worth a punt in my view!
  19. Smith didnt sign the correct players for the champions league qualifiers due to the simple fact all strikers were signed when Ferguson was still fit.....he must have thought he would have him for those games and that would have allowed them to take their time on the Davis deal, when he was injured there was a panic. This is the error that cost us the CL and thus Carlos Cuellar. He cant get exposure in Spain playing in the SPL and only in Europe, we were out and to achieve his dream he had to look elsewhere. It's just a big chain of events that have caused this, although I still feel after the SCF he should have been locked in talks with Murray, Bain and Smith to secure a new deal at least to protect our asset and even get him on a larger release clause of something in the region of £10-15million!
  20. I hope we have a sell on clause on the big man though, could be worth 1-2 million for us!
  21. If he does come.....nothing would surprise me at the moment.....boyd will be moved on probably in a deal to get Loovens to the club.
  22. Oh dont get me started on McCulloch.....but as has been said the moves by Bain to secure our prized asset were way too late but it is essentially the failure in the Champions League which has cost us Carlos!
  23. So guys it's hard to come to terms with it all, im just home myself and it was the last thing I expected to see in front of me.....gutted, that's the appropriate word here.....gutted! Failure to qualify to the Champions League this season has cost us our star player of the 07/08 season, King Carlos. Why? Well playing in Scotland in hard enough to gain exposure and for a player with International ambitions, which he has never denied, players need an external outlay to showcase their talents. The Champions League and the UEFA cup allow players to showcase their talents with World Wide exposure against arguably the best players in Europe....essentially the world. The simple task of defeating FK Kaunas has prevented this for Carlos Cuellar and it would seem that after witnessing the game at the weekend he must have wondered if the call would ever come under these circumstances, he decided unfortunately that it wouldn't. I think the unfortunate circumstances for Rangers here is the fact the player had a Minimum Fee release clause of only 10Million Euro's! This was not well known in the media whatsoever and obviously it was kept close to the chests of the Player, Agent and Club itself as no one wanted to attract any interest. Cuellar I believe WAS happy at Rangers and WAS happy with his current deal and the only reason his circumstances have changed is due to our FAILURE to defeat a minnow in Europe. To blame are certainly all of the players who played in those two legs as they have cost us our star man. After his excellent season last year for us what should have immediately happened was for Murray and Bain to get Cuellar into a meeting and provide him with a contract of £20k+ pw with a release clause of at least £10million. I believe it was mentioned when he was signed he was on 12-13k and he would have quite rightly deserved a rise in his terms. This is where we have also failed, we just didnt do enough to secure him and protect our own interests to the maximum. Offering a slightly higher release clause would not have put the player off as there were clearly interest in the player and the fee assumed by all would have been around £10million plus in the meantime he would have picked up more money. The guy definitely loved the club and the fans and should not be crucified for being ambitious we must remember this. I was at the Scottish Cup Final at the end of last season and he was the ONLY player who looked as if he cared that we won it, his celebrations with the fans were tremendous. What I admire is his sheer desire to play for this club and he never gave anything but his best. He is certianly irreplacable and Villa are going to get someone who can only be described as a World Class defender. Many have failed in the move south before......he won't! Good Luck Carlos and Thanks for the Memories!
