I've had this argument levelled at me before and my answer is always if the role isn't a big deal anymore then equally taking the armband off him shouldn't be seen as a big deal and there's no harm in doing so just to see if there's a positive reaction.

I was 8 or 9 that first season he came and he was absolutely everything to a young kid just starting to understand the game. Every play time I pretended to be Michael Mols.

He's took all the adulation for his goals and assists over the years and although his character, mentality and ability as a defender have always come in to question LARGE portions of the support always jumped to his defence. That's dried up! 2nd best was never ever acceptable but the fans are exhausted with it at this point and anger is inevitable, there will be no more apologists or glass half full happy clappers in amongst the Rangers support going forward and he knows it, and probably knows deep down that if the right managerial appointment is made his days are numbered.
