LEE McCULLOCH thought that he had earned his side a point in Sevilla tonight when his powerful shot in the dying minutes was palmed away brilliantly by keeper Andres Palop.

With his side a goal down following Frederic Kanoute's eighth minute penalty McCulloch tried his luck from long range - just as he did with great effect in Romania against Unirea Urziceni - and almost caught the Spanish shotstopper off guard.

He said: "To be honest I thought it was in; I caught the ball perfectly and the keeper has made a terrific save.

"To get a point here would have been great and we would all have travelled back to Scotland happy.

"But it's not to be and all we can do now is put this European campaign behind us and focus on the league and both domestic cups.

"We are disappointed not to progress further in Europe this season but we have to look forward now.

"We are still in a good position to have a very successful season and hopefully we can be back in Champions League again next year."

It was a tough night for the Gers players in the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium with Sevilla's stars keeping possession for long periods in humid conditions.

Lee added: "It was difficult out there, for a lot of the game we were chasing the ball and it was all about trying to keep our shape and be disciplined.

"They're a world class team but we can come away with our heads held high.

"1-0 is not a bad result out here, especially when you consider their goal came from a penalty.

"They put us under pressure but we coped with that pretty well and had a couple of chances at the end with Nacho also coming close.

"It's frustrating that we have finished at the bottom of the group, especially when you look back at some of our games when things have gone against us.

"Against Unirea away, for example, we dominated that one and a freak goal in the last minute was so costly.

"So we are not a bad team, we have just had a disappointing European campaign this year.

"All we can do is try to learn from our six games and, hopefully, we can get another crack at the Champions League next season."

Funny how he never mentions that Seville players were walking past him whilst he stood and pointed at everyone.

Didnt mention that but he said "Seville are world class". Only a world class team will walk by Big Lee.

Stuttgart and Uneria must be world class as well then, you could add St Mirren, Falkirk, etc to the list as well! :pierre:
