Tonge isn't a winger per se but I'm pretty sure he's a player who's starting position is the left hand side of midfield with the freedom to drift infield in an attempt to influence the game ala Davis for us (I don't care what anybody say he doesn't and has never has been asked to as a winger for us)

If that's the case then he could easily come in and play on the left hand side of our midfield and with a 'proper' winger on the other flank I think it would give the midfield a nice balance because we are highly unlikely to play with two out and out wingers. Very few teams who play 4-4-2 do these days.

He's comfy in the middle and comfy on the left.

More of a David Beckham than an Aaron Lennon though in terms of 'winger', if you know what I mean.

...more of a Jerome Rothen than a DaMarcus Beasley.

Do you know, I'd hate my son to be playing at U-19 level (or thereabouts) at Ibrox these days knowing that he had two chances of getting a run in this present Rangers first team - slim and none.

We're being linked with every second-rater from the English lower divisions - most of whom I've never heard of.

I'd rather the Club (Bain/Smith, etc) said nothing.

Depressed? :(

I'm passed depressed and have moved onto the 'getting bevvied to blur it all out' stage.

:beer1:

If he was good enough he'd get his chance!

How can you be depressed?

If he was good enough he'd get his chance!

Sadly that's not the case at Ibrox.

That was confirmed as much when Smith said that if we'd had a bit more cash, we'd never have seen Wilson.

I remember a long time ago he scored twice against Liverpool to help Sheffield Utd get a massive victory in Carling Cup, i think. He was highly rated at that time, but i havent heard of him in the last years.

He's a good player, never let us down at Stoke and has a good attitude to training. Would like to have seen more of him but we have exceeded all expectation in the prem over the last 2 seasons and other players have stepped up. Remember Delap will all ways play and Etherington has been great. Thats 2 midfield places gone every week. As a fan of both clubs I'd be really happy if he came to Ibrox and did well and I think he would do well. Get him in.......

Considering our current tight budget and on the subject of gambling on a player, I think Michael Misfud would be an excellent aquisition and could quite easily fill the void left by Novos departure.

The guy let the attention go to his head at Coventry (that was down to poor man management IMO) & his career has stumbled a bit as a result, but he's been a solid one goals in two/three games throughout his entire career, he's quick nippy and he can play right across the front line.

We've certainly been linked with him in the past, but I doubt we've followed his career much since.

He's just finished a half season spell at a club in Malta and would probably jump at the chance to play for a club as big as ours.

Misfud is a player who would score for fun in the SPL.

I don't think he would "score for fun" but any player with a career average of 1 goal every 2.43 games at club level and 1 in 3 internationally could certainly add a much needed goal threat.

He wouldn't be a wow signing at all, but I think it would prove to be a masterstroke of a signing.

This guy reminds me of Naismith....Started off looking like a world beater and ended up playing like a fucking panel beater.....and he's still 10 times the player that Holman is. Fuckin helllllllllllll. :anguish: :anguish:

Tonge isn't a wide player. He's a left footed central midfielder

Tonge is not left footed, he is certainly right footed. I don't see why people have an issue with him though. He could play on the right side of midfield( or cut in from the left) and do a good job for us. Also this would allow Davis to play in the middle. So what's so wrong with signing him? Okay he ain't an out an out winger but he is at least a player who learned his trade as a wide player then got brought inside, so he does know how to play wide in a 4-4-2, better that than putting lafferty, or naismith or whittaker on a wing in my opinion.

And another thing..... it ain't Misfud, it's Mifsud lol

That is a nothing story tbh. The ET have picked up the Michael Tonge to Rangers on loan talk and have done an interview with someone who knows him as a player just to fill the pages and sell more papers.

I don't see him as a winger though.

watched michael tonge regularly when he was with sheffield united(my son and nephew are bramall lane ST holders),was a real prospect six or seven years ago, getting england u-21 caps.

HE WAS NOT,IS NOT,AND NEVER WILL BE A WIDE PLAYER/WINGER. his position is right/central midfield.slow and cumbersome these days, injury prone, passing abilities can be sensational and embarrasing.got a great shot on him when he hits it right, free kick specialist as well, but 4 years too late for me,would not improve the team/squad one iota in my opinion.washed up and worn out.dont even think about it mr.bain, please

i never said he was crap anywhere,in fact he was a brilliant player....six or seven years ago,i watched almost every sheff.utd home game back then and quite a few away,so my opinion is not pish at all, just a current prospective of where michael tonges career is at now. and by the way,the only manager to ever get anything out of him was neil warnock, morry asked for an opinion from people who have seen him play, where have you seen him,on your playstation?

people who give honest opinions on here are always shot down in flames.and yes i am a season ticket holder at ibrox, and have seen every away tie in europe in the last six seasons, also friendlies in new york, south africa and dubai plus all pre season tours in recent years until the current one.i want good additions to our team/squad not players who no longer do the business.another,capucho.nerlinger,ostenstad,rothen,etc etc is not what we require right now is it?
