Early days of course... But...

I'm sure they will say it's a helluva lot better than they expected?

St. Johnstone today were well organized and competitive (See the McInness thread -- possible agreed great Manager).

I will be interested to see their thoughts...

ex: Beattie has not scored yet --- why not?

Beattie is still lacking match fitness IMO when he starts scoring he won't be able to stop

weiss looks the business but you can bet that every manager, especially lennon, will see that he is booted up and down the park from the beginning of the game as he is a threat. great dead ball specialist, not one freekick or corner he took today was wrong. well done.

beattie looks like he has potential. obviously not match fit at all yet, but there are promising signs. he is very slow and has not got a good touch, but his space and player awareness are great. i will wait till he reaches full fitness before judging him.

jelavic will be a great signing. forget boyd. this man is the whole package. he looked fast, powerful, and determined. he can score from headers, tap ins, 12yards and 35yard powershots.

i am really excited to see more of him. give him a few weeks to train with the team and boy we have a player in our hands.

well done management in securing what looks to be, three fantastic signings.

i was saying to my grandad today, we know what we are doing when we sign players. i personally believe these signings will make a bigger impact in our team than the 300 players celtic have signed. thing about previous players we have signed, boogie, mendes, davis, edu...all great players. top class.

They would say it's a shite league, with a dearth of quality, and they would hope to be playing in the EPL soon.

Would they? How do you 'know' this?

ex: What would Messi do in in the SPL? (Might do f*ck all tbh). Who knows?

Or is the level of player so much poorer?

All players would rather play in the EPL. Your point is ... well not a point at all. IF they were good enough AND teams wanted them... don't you think they would be there?

ffs.. think before you type. IF it's such a shite league, why hasn't Beattie been rampant? Just an example...

You asked the question, I gave my answer.

If you want people to agree with you, say so in the first post.

Interesting question really..because all three are from different backgrounds.

Beattie now is an EPL has been, he simply lost his pace and can´t compete in the EPL anymore. That said he got bags of experience and might turn valuable in the long run.

Weiss is an EPL "not yet been" as he´s being put to the final evaluations by Man City, hence he got talent, pace and star quality.

Jelavic comes from a league not far from SPL in standard and looks confident that he´ll be a star for us like he was for his Austrian team.

Of the three I think Jelavic will find it easy to adapt. Weiss is still a bit young so he will learn rather quickly or come home in a coffin. Beattie will (unfortunately perhaps) look like he´s been an SPL player all his life.

None of the three will have any illusions about SPL, it´s a rough very physical league with a lot of cobblers playing. Creativity is seldom seen but instead teams rely on teamspirit and a willingness to get stuck in.

Celtic- Agreed.

Hibernian- Suppose it could be argued that Maribor were further into their pre-season than Hibs, but still disappointing.

Dundee United- One of the top three teams in Greece, who re a pretty decent outfit. Even then, United ran them close.

Motherwell- No shame in losing to arguably the best team in Denmark.

AEK haven't started their league season yet either, giving Dundee United the same sort of advantage as Maribor had.

Odense, Europa League participants after all, were only the second best Danish team last season and their domestic form this season is far from perfect.

I couldn't care less what they think of the league.

They're getting paid to a job for one of the best clubs in the world. I'm sure they knew the SPL wasn't great before they signed, if it's better than they expected then so be it.

I'd argue that the gap in quality between AEK and United is greater than the gap between United an Maribor. Also, Odense have some right good players- the younger, better Utaka being one of them. I just think you're being slightly harsh (tu)

I'm normally really harsh, so I must be mellowing in my old age. :)
