brilliant timing to come out and say you want to leave in the summer. Idiot. Get back to your best, help us win 3 in a row and then leave in the summer if you want. Hardly a boost to team morale coming out with something like this now. I reckon we should have sold him in the summer when he was on form. Hes still our best defender but hes been poor this season compared to how good we know he can be. Wont be easy to replace him as we probably wont get a big fee for him in the summer.

So would I and I hope your right but I doubt it, Rangers will do well to get £2 -£2.5 Million for him , if you were the player and we were getting £4 Million for him would you not stay put until January and sign on a free and pocket the £4 million for yourself?

LOL WAT?

new poster here lads, but how many times have we heard this coming from the big man, hes under-perfomed this season. i dont think we will get a mega transfer fee for him either mabye hes holding out for more cash untill the takeover goes through. i would like him to stay but if his heart isnt in it well mabye its time to move on

Certainly wont be easy to replace Madjid Bougherra, especially with no or little money to spend, and a squad lacking in numerous positions.

Hasn't been at his best this season, no-one has, but he is still our best defender and one of our better players (we don't have many).

This better not mean David Weir gets a new contract.

Bougherra is easily good enough to play in the Premiership and anyone that thinks otherwise is at it. Gary and Stephen Caldwell, Ian Evatt, Titus Bramble, Anton Ferdinand, Sebastien Squillaci, Laurent Koscielny, Danny Collins etc etc...

Obviously Bougherra would be good enough for a mid table EPL side, but it's hardly going to be much of a step up in his career. Turkey would be better than someone like Everton or Fulham

I remember when he signed I wasn't impressed. A mate from where I worked was a West Brom fan and remembers them battering Charlton and Bougherra being at fault for 3 out the 4 goals.

Nearly three years later he has been one of my fav players over the last couple of years. I just wish we could of kept hold of Cuellar and played the two of them together!

Money is his main goal by the sounds of it - can't blame him! The Premiership will earn him at least treble his wage here, but also give him a higher quality of football. The other countries he talks about are not known for their quality, but are known for paying mega-bucks.

He must be sick of Scottish football too - Hamilton 6/7 times last season, Celtic 7 times this season

I have to admit, I seen this coming a while back.

The confirmation, for me at least, that he wasn't going to be a Rangers player for much longer came in the 2-1 win at home to Kilmarnock, when Weiss whipped a cracking ball in to force an own goal in the last couple of minutes. The entire game had been a bad tempered, nervy affair so a late winner like that should have brought, and did bring fantastic celebrations from all concerned. All but Bougherra, who sulked back into his position looking like a man who'd just realised he'd left an amputee porn site open on his laptop and his missus was due home soon.

He's justified the money we spent on him, and if we get more for him than we paid then it can be looked upon as good business, but this announcement is poorly timed and he'll rightly take a fair amount of stick for it.

Rangers boss-in-waiting Ally McCoist: I want showdown talks with wantaway star Madjid Bougherra

Apr 12 2011 Exclusive by Keith Jackson

ALLY MCCOIST last night demanded showdown talks with Madjid Bougherra after the Algerian international announced his intention to quit Ibrox this summer.

Rangers' manager in waiting was gobsmacked by the news in yesterday's Record Sport that Bougherra had turned down a new two-year deal and set his heart on moving at the end of the current campaign.

McCoist had hoped to have his star defender tied up on a new contract for the start of his first campaign as boss but now faces a scramble to find a cut-price replacement.

However, first he wants to hear directly from the player himself.

McCoist was speaking exclusively to Record Sport in the Perthshire village of Ballinluig, after joining outgoing boss Walter Smith for a training day of white water rafting on the Tay.

And he said: "The situation with Bougherra is news to me. The first I knew about it was when I read it in the paper on the way up here this morning. However, there's not much we can do about it if the man wants to leave and he's not happy with the contract he has been offered.

"But I would have liked to have had the opportunity to speak to him about it first. Madjid hasn't spoken to myself, the manager, Kenny McDowall or Ian Durrant. So we need to sit down and discuss a few things.

"In an ideal world I would love to keep him. There is no question Madjid is one of our better players when he's fit.

"However, you shouldn't have to brow beat anyone into playing for Rangers.

"If they don't want to play and are unhappy at Rangers then it's hardly ideal to have them around.

"That's why I need to have a wee chat with Madjid to find out what he's thinking.

"But, to be quite frank, there is a lot more going on just now than Madjid, in terms of trying to win titles and club takeovers. His future is just another thing we will have to deal with."

McCoist then admitted that - with or without Bougherra - his own hopes of securing a first season title could be all but obliterated by the club's bankers unless Craig Whyte's £25million takeover is finally pushed through.

He said: "I've said all along that it would be in the best interests of the club if we do find some investment this summer. We need players to strengthen the squad.

"At this moment in time I 'm looking at starting pre-season with just two or three first-team players. I don't know the exact figures but it's ridiculous.

"Because of international matches, the Scotland and Northern Ireland boys will need an extra few days' break as will Maurice Edu, Madjid, if he's still at the club, and Nikica Jelavic.

"We have four players on loan - Vladimir Weiss, Kyle Bartley, El Hadji Diouf and Richard Foster - who will return to their clubs as things stand. And David Healy's contract is up too.

"All we can do is plan for two different scenarios - one which involves a buyout and one which does not."

And McCoist has warned the fans the situation could rapidly become a whole lot bleaker than many of them have imagined.

He said: "I'm sometimes not sure the supporters realise just how serious our situation will be if we are not taken over. Some of them do but I honestly believe the vast majority don't.

"What chance would we have of winning the title next season if the club is not in new hands? Well, it would be extremely difficult.

"But the one thing in our favour is that myself, Kenny and Ian all know this club inside out. We know the standards that Rangers demands. That's a plus.

"There will be a lot more minuses if the club is not bought over but we will give it our best. We will set out to win the title and every other trophy but we are under no illusions as to the size of the task we could be facing.

"If we don't get a buyer then it will be a harder task next season than it has been so far in this campaign.

"I have only spoken to Craig very briefly. It would be nice to get the chance to sit down with him as the new owner to discuss how we take things forward."

If he does go to the Premiership, and I think a lower mid-table Premiership club would be his most likely destination were he to leave, then he'll need to cut those mad charges upfield out of his game entirely. If he tries that against a backline with the likes of Vidic or Terry, or even someone a level below like Kompany, they'll just hoof him straight into the advertising boards.

Can't argue with him wanting to test himself in the EPL, don't think he's picked the right moment to come out and say this though. I hope we're well on our way to looking for replacements already because we need to make sure whoever we bring in at the back next season needs to hit the ground running.

Shame the big fella wants to go, but I at least appreciate the honesty.

What top player with ambition wouldnt want to test themselves in one of the best leagues in the world?

Hope we get a decent sum for him, maybe around 5m. Help us replace him.

Sir David of Weir to stay?

I was expecting him to go at the end of the season tbh, and Im glad he is.

He has been a great player for Rangers but if his hearts not in it, it will affect his performances on the pitch.

When he does leave, I wish him every success in the future.

I hate to be the potential bearer of bad news here but he signed a four year deal and will be going into the third year of that deal according to radio scotland before the mhanks game kicked off earlier now this would be fine if it hadn't been for Andy Websters ruling from a few years ago we might lose boughie for free if someone wants him enough to take him which is a massive problem for us but I hope we get a fee for him and a decent fee at that hope he signs a new year long deal to stop this happening.
