the only teams in the spl this weekend not to wear poppys on their shirts to show their respect to the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice with their lives ,and also those that are still suffering ?

It's not a case of tit for tat or one upmanship , It's just that I only noticed it earlier ,and also that they dont play again till the 19th Nov which is after Rememberence Day

It's quite likely they were forced into it so as to not start crowd trouble.

If someone from rasellik asked the spl / well for an agreement as to not to show support ,incase their support caused crowd trouble , they should have been told where exactly to go . TWO WRONGS DONT MAKE IT RIGHT FFS

You can't exactly turn down direct requests from the Police Match Day Liaison Madina.

The Police should be ashamed of themselves, not honouring our countries war hero's, the country who's Police force they serve in. All to keep those scummy bastards happy :disappointment:

I thought I saw the parent of the year Mulgrew on the back of the paper last week showing their support for the Poppy appeal, also thought it mentioned they were giving £20k or so towards it <cr>

10k I'm sure

Celtic make £10,000 donation to Poppy Scotland

By: Newsroom Staff on 24 Oct, 2011 12:32

CELTIC Charity Fund, the charitable arm of Celtic Football Club today presented a donation of £10,000 to the work of Poppy Scotland.

The Club's donation will be used to support ex-Servicemen and women across Scotland in a variety of ways, including treatment and rehabilitation for those injured while serving.

As we look ahead to Remembrance Sunday, Poppy Scotland will this week launch the 2011 Scottish Poppy Appeal. Celtic is pleased to kick-off this fundraising activity with this substantial donation.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: "As we approach Remembrance Sunday next month, we remember the victims on all sides of all conflicts. Many people from all walks of life have entered the Services, and indeed, we all remember the contribution which so many Celtic players made during both World Wars.

"We are pleased to make this donation which will hopefully assist many people in Scotland dealing with devastating injuries.

"We understand fully the tragedy of conflict and the wider effects which this brings, which is why we are also pleased to support War Child, the global charity which cares for the child victims of war in places such as Afghanistan, Iraq and across Africa."

Ian McGregor, Chief Executive of Poppy Scotland said: "We are extremely grateful to Celtic Football Club for their continued support of the Scottish Poppy Appeal. This generous donation will enable us to continue to deliver our life-changing work for Scotland's Armed Forces community.

"As well as continuing to fund therapy, housing and retraining for veterans, we are also hoping to introduce short breaks for the families of Service personnel who are away on active duty.

"As we indicated last year we feel that after three very successful years of the poppy shirt initiative with the SPL, we wanted to work with each club individually to develop a range of new activities. Today is just one example of how the clubs are getting behind the Appeal this year and we look forward to building further on the excellent relationship we have with Celtic, and the other 11 clubs, in the coming weeks."

What happenened liewell , if your supposed to be part of the Poppy Shirt Initiative ?

Aye, that's it, Lawwell, only give them money so long as you can big up your club too.

Can't imagine the Jake Brigade will be happy about this.

Was it (tu)

Obviously not a true well meaning gesture, a gesture to save face and still make the fools believe their support are happy chappies all about the jolly "craic", not the scumbags that they truly are.

Couldn't miss there contribution, there was also a wee article on our club doing summit but it was a nowhere page outwith the sport section and about two inche's long, sad but tru

Every club in the UK should be made to have a poppy on their shirts , Out of Respect

No they shouldn't.

I hate this attitude that everyone should be forced to wear a poppy, when the poppy represent's those who fought for freedom and democracy, the two things which allows people to decide what they want to wear and what they don't want to wear. Whilst I fully support the poppy appeal and fully believe that people should wear them, not one person should be forced into wearing it though.
