The undeniable case for Walter Smith getting a Knighthood.

Are we to allow Walter Smith's contribution to Scottish football to pass without using the might of Rangers fans demanding that he gets his just desserts of a Knighthood?

What other sporting legend with a record like his would not have the country demanding he receives what should be rightfully his?

Anyone who is mistaken enough to think that Walter should not be Sir Walter, has to explain what the following people did that was greater than the great man's achievements.

Stirling Moss...never even won a World Championship.

Henry Cooper....won only 40 of his 55 fights, and never held a title greater than Commonwealth champion. He even shat it to fight Floyd Paterson for the World title, before Cassius Clay showed him up when he eventually did accept a World title shot.

Henry Cecil....trained horses to run fast. 'Nuff said.

Ian McGeechan....played rugby, and his main claim to fame was winning one Grand Slam as Scotland coach.

Trevor Brooking....won the FA Cup twice with West Ham, and played 47 times for England before becoming an administrator.

I rest my case.

Sir Walter has 10 (TEN!) Premier League Titles to his name.

He also helped both Rangers and Dundee Utd to win titles as an assistant manager.

Not to mention also improving Scotland's standings in World football by SEVENTY places while the national manager, coaching the Scotland under 18s to win the European Championship, and managing Scotland to their only trophy in history (apart from Home International victories).

Walter Smith not only provided glory for Rangers, but did it for his country, and the club he served as both a player and as part of the greatest management team they ever had in their entire history.

Think that's harsh on Cooper, he nearly had Ali in their first fight but for a good bit of jiggery pokery from MA's corner stalling and having a round break totalling well over two to three minutes.

Why are people hung up about Walter getting a knighthood? We know what he did for our club and that should be enough. Who cares if he gets a outdated bauble from the Queen. The list above just emphasises how stupid it is. We will always herald Walter as a Ranger legend regardless of whether he gets a knighthood

Maybe it's only stupid to people who don't think that countries should have honours, to decorate its citizens.

Why would you object to Walter getting an honour such as a Knighthood?

I don't object mate. I just don't care. You get the impression that some people feel that Walter needs to validate what he did for Rangers. Walter is a Rangers legend and always will be for what he done over his 2 periods at the club. A knightwood wouldn't alter that one bit.

If he is to be decorated why don't the club do something? That would be more fitting than sharing a platform with Stirling Moss and the like
