Andy Gray was a great commentator :praise: That ji has looked like a good player whenever av seen him this season...admittedly not alot...but 300k i think they got him for. good business

Thing is, he doesn't actually commentate as such. If you shut your eyes and listened to him, you'd have no idea at all of what was happening.

But he knows his stuff. He's more of a natterer than a moment-by-moment commentator, like you get on radio (David Begg is the best example of the latter).

Exactly as it should be. He's a commentator. He is supposed to colour the action. Almost every other modern 'commentator' is simply a narrator in love with the sound of his own voice. Saying something because you feel awkward not filling in the silences is the mark of somebody who has nothing valuable to say. Like Ian Crocker. "DID I MENTION WHEN HAMILTON ACADEMICALS BEAT RANGERS YET?"
