I dont think we are all getting this... :pipe:

Al Jazeera aint planning in outbidding Sky to then go cap in hand to ask Sky to show the games on Sky dishes. Al Jazeera are bidding to launch a competitor to Sky with their own dishes and boxes to knock SKY off their perch.

Dont discount Apple on this one either.

The EPL hasnt even got close to the true value of their TV package yet.

A sports banker who has worked with the financing and sale of several English Premier League soccer teams says interest by Apple Computer in the league’s media rights when the current deals expire will push value above $3 billion a year.

Premier League coverage is seen as a way to boost sales of Apple TV and the iPad. Apple’s interest was first revealed by London’s Daily Mail and was confirmed to Yahoo! Sports by Apple sources on Thursday.

The EPL’s current deal (it sold its domestic and international rights together) with ESPN and James Murdoch’s BSkyB runs from 2010 through 2013 and pays a total of $5.6 billion (assuming a 1.6 dollar/pound exchange rate), or 1.88 billion annually. My source, who consults with media companies on the value of rights fees and is familiar with the preliminary discussions for the EPL, says Apple entering the bidding for those rights, which would be hotly contested, would push their annual value above $3 billion.

The impact on the value of teams in the EPL, especially for top teams that get a disproportionate share of the revenue, such as Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea, will be profound. A big winner will be Boston Red Sox owner John Henry, who purchased Liverpool for a bargain price of $476 million in 2010 from Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
