nachothelegend 1,932
Nerves play a big part in the ability to build from the back. The old saying" if it's not near your goal, then they can't score".Trust is also a major factor here. How good is the entirely new defence at finding a player when they get the ball to feet? Not too good at the moment IMO. Midfield set up ie, holding player, has to dominate the game from the off. We haven't had that pleasure yet, but if Black gets to sit back a bit or Jig in there, then it could be a different story. But we need them in different positions at the moment. Everyone wants to see Wallace bombing up the wing and doing what we know he can, but running the length of the pitch for 90 mins is unrealistic and if he is caught out of position, well? The team seem to be terrified to get caught out just now. Yea, every one of them should be above the teams we are facing, part-timers, postmen and all that shite. Some of these blokes are as fit or fitter (excuse the pun) than full time players and run around like a headless Kenny Miller! Rolling the ball around their own box will see them get their arse handed to them. Tough one just now but I'm sure it will come.Mate thats what Training is for , its Bread and Butter for a Full Time Professional Footballer. For a goalkeeper so small he gave a good account of himself. He 9/10 got something onto the ball even just a fist or a palm but it was enough. ryankyleakin 31
Punting the ball long has absolutely fuck all to do with alexander and isn't his fault whatsoever.I was at the game and was looking at it, everytime he got the ball nobody in our defence offers him a pass, they all just turn and look forward straight away. so he's forced to go long and it probably frustrates him as much as us.In an ideal world our full backs would push on, the centre backs would split and a midfielder drop into that space so he has options but if nobody does that theres nothing Alexander can do. Fitness will never get you a win at any level of the game. Without having a go at Ally or the coaches, it's moving the ball quickly between players that's lacking. One touch. Every player last night wanted to stop and look around to play the ultimate killer pass. If their all trying to do that, then no-one is moving into space to recieve the ball! Then push it on quickly to another player WITH A BLUE FUCKING JERSEY ON! Triangles and move. Basic stuff!!!!!!
El Carpintero 546
We have players looking for the ball and the goalie is constantly waving them away in favour of a punt up field to the opposition. Very poor play. Coaches obviously havn't told him to stop either it which is quite telling in itself.

ronniemca 479
watch any european or english football including the lower leagues and no team play the way we do.the style of football we have went out in the late 50s ffs
Teetobear 27
We have to learn to mix it between long punts and short throw outs if we just played it short all the time it gives the other team the the chance to press us and with the defence at the moment how long would it be before they made a mistake we need to relies that we are better than the teams were playing and take the game to them instead of dropping down to there level

Blue_Dynamo 29
Our keepers at youth level should be instructed to pass the ball out to a defenders feet every time they have the ball ,regardless of the scoreline or opposition. The only time our first team keeper should be allowed or encouraged to kick long is in the dying seconds of a match we are losing by a solitary goal. DavidLamond 1
Personally id like to see the keeper look for a defender every single time. I reckon defenders currently expect the ball to be launched and don't look for the space to make themselves available. Fair enough changing the tactic immediately might result in mistakes to begin with, but with enough variation (dummy runs and throwing the ball to a deep midfielder rtc) it can surely work? fyfe 19
Punting the ball long is bad enough in most games but especially bad in games like Tuesday's, where there was nobody with a chance of getting to it. Mackay was the one running around looking for most of the time, but he won't beat a 6-foot defender for a long ball, and Kyle kept standing/wandering offside. It made no sense for Alexander to do it, and hopefully it's something he cuts down on. He puts out a good throw when he tries.

Sander2006 50
Alexander's distribution is far to slow it infuriates me how long he holds onto the ball for. Whilst we could be hitting them on the break with quick distribution he waits till they are all back in position. McGregor's distributions was far superior. Number5 2,122
It's the most basic of skills, in fact it's not even a skill, opening you eyes and throwing a ball 30yrds. Surely this must be what Ally is asking of him though. Big useless punts down the field. For it too be going on for so long it's obviously what the manager wants. Non_Sucumbi 876
Unless you are like Peter McLoy do not kick the ball out. Big Peter used to kick it so high when the ball came down there was snow on it. That used to fuck up the defender trying to head the ball At this level we should be walking the ball from the back and building our attacks. All fine in theory. Now of we could learn to only pass to Rangers players!!!!!!Our inability to retain obsession in midfield this season has been shocking.
