Once again the mouthpiece for the Premier League has attempted to kill the debate about whether Rangers or "any other" Scottish team would be permitted to join their league, stating the rules allow Welsh but not Scottish!!...See you in court Rick.

ENGLISH Premier League chief Richard Scudamore has sounded a death knell for the Old Firm’s dreams of playing down south.

Despite Rangers supremo Charles Green starting the debate again last week, Scudamore says English rules will prevent any move.

He said: “It’s my fourteenth year of answering this question. The answer is still ‘no’.

“Our rules say it’s only clubs from England and Wales that can play here and I don’t see that ever changing. Quite a lot of clubs in the world would like to play in the English Premier League.

“There have been clubs from other European leagues as well as the Scots who have approached us.

“It’s all very flattering but it’s not simply going to happen.”

Yeah I was quite gutted to read that in the paper this morning tbh. I don't fancy the idea of being in a europe league and feel our only option would be to apply to the lower leagues of english football but looks like that won't be happening. I wouldn't like it to drag through the courts and get messy so it looks like we need to play our football in this shite.

He's just a mouthpiece for the EPL, and he's stating the rules as they are now, but rules are made to be changed.

These rules are not written in stone, rules are changed all the time. You used to get 2 pts for a win, the goalkeeper could pick up a passback, lt was only champions that played in the champions league, and if you won SFL3 you used to get promotion.

So Scudamore will just say what he is told to say, until the rules change again.

CG will probably use the racial equality card or something. It is disgusting why the welsh are allowed to play, but not the Scots. But if we are to get this done, we need to try it properly soon, as if Scotland passes the independence vote then we lose the whole United Kingdom part!

It will not stop here. He is just the EPL spokesman, the FA have not said a word yet!

There is no mechanism in place that would allow a Scottish team to play down South. We've known this for years. It's not as if we haven't tried already.

Why do the Scottish leagues allow an English team to play here then and why do the English Allow welsh teams to play in England?

I know what you're saying but people should start asking questions like this to guys like this character.

The real point here is no one has mentioned anything about the EPL no one from Rangers anyway. Green is talking about going to league 2 in England.

But again the media have done what they do best and made this whole bit up about us wanting to join the EPL.

Even going and asking EPL managers about it.

Richard Scudemore mouthpiece for the EPL.

There is an agreement between The FA and SFA which FIFA would uphold that prevents them taking member clubs from each other. The Welsh situation is entirely different and stems from the Welsh not having a league structure when these clubs were admitted into the English system. Its not been easy for the Welsh clubs, if you have a look at Newport County you'll see how hard it was for them to retain their place in the English system!

Richard Scudamore is doing no more than reiterating what the situation is speaking on behalf of EPL member clubs. There is no apettite amongst league clubs in England to entertain Rangers in the EPL. The only way to achieve this would be for CG to acquire a team in England and work through the leagues that way, it would not, however, be as Rangers in the form it is now (member club of the SFA).

There will be no court case as there are no grounds for such a case even the sex discrimination route proposed is pretty much a non-starter. The big clubs may, eventually, break away to form a European league but thats in the future. Whilst the attraction is obvious a move to the EPL, or EFL, is not going to happen in the future unless there is a volte face by English clubs.

Exactly! And i don't think anyone here would want to jump straight into the EPL, we would get murdered atm.

As we have all stated, start low aim high!

The key word there is TAKE... they would not be TAKING us, as the SFA have pretty much said if it would benefit scottish football, they would let us leave, therefore the English would not be taking us, rather, accepting us.

This guy is an irrelevance, IF and its a huge IF, Rangers ever got permission to play in England it would be via the conference and therefore entry into the EPL would be via the normal promotion route.

Again a non-story we really need to understand better how the press works;

Reporter: Do you think Rangers will be invited to join the EPL?

Scudamore: blah, blah, blah, who the fuck cares its irrelevant.

I don't think we will know for sure until this is tested in court. The EU have been bending the rules making football a "special case" The European court has a really good habit of ignoring these, at the end of the day if we get to England and work through the leagues I don't think the EPL would be in a position to stop us as any rules they have must comply with the law.

We would welcome teams from England and Wales because the quality of our League is so poor. However, I doubt UEFA would permit it. England on the other hand don't need us as their game is thriving. Welsh teams got in years ago will they could those loopholes have since been closed. Scottish and Welsh teams can no longer get in.

The english rules mean fuck all they are stopping us from operating as a buisness in freedom of movement within europe to which we choose to go to england and apply to div 2 if the chairmen of that division voted that they wanted us no one could stop us this WILL end up in court

We also need to be accepted into a league in England, currently the league system (EPL and EFL) has consistently voted against participation by Scottish clubs. My main point was to explain the difference between the Scottish and Welsh situation. If it was just a case of any Welsh club being allowed in then there would be more than 6 Welsh clubs in the set up (all 6 being long standing participants). Entry via the lower end of the pyramid seems to be the only real option, in the current climate.

I cannot see how letting their biggest club (and revenue generator at the minute) would 'benefit' Scottish football. It would be the death of the game and take it to the same level as the Welsh set up is now.

I agree with most of that Big Al but, if Scudemore announced next week that the door was open, how irrelevant would he be then?
