bluegecko 306
this was all raised when he came in last year.We wanted the club to be run more business like and that's whats happening, just we're having to do it in full view of everyone. There was calls on here to end the jobs for the boys way of doing things, now that it seems to be heading that way others are outraged. No matter what happens the media will twist the knife, best keeping his mouth shut and sticking to club statements
Mark Walters 206
He would turn bramall lane into a potato field,? does that sound similarthat was big bombers secret and was most concerned about as Green told him he could turn ibrox into ashes to make more moneythats the way the guy talks, tongue in cheek but seems to work with these guys, Bassett still spouting it and bomber tooi think Green is ruthless and hopefully we see that in the future because Rangers need a good decision maker.Good decision maker? We just need a CEO to do his fucking job and run the club in a proper manner and not go off on quasi-political rants that are painfully unfunny.Thank fuck we had the Puma deal in place before he opened his trap on this particular hot potato. Nemesis 277
Yeah so let's interview someone who was sacked by Charlie. Let's describe the guy who was taking Sheffield Utd into freefall as a 'legendary manager' Let's draw tenuous comparisons. Let's make out a Chief Exec overhauling the staff structure is something untoward. No wonder i boycott the media up here. Total hatchet job. Keeping Rangers in the news and creating interest around us. Did we ever have so many foriegn journalists standing outside Ibrox hours before kick off before? Charles Green is deliberately keeping Rangers in the news for reasons and we should applaud that! yes we dont agree with some of the stuff he spouts and splits opinion but instead of Rangers dissappearing in the third division columns, we are backpage news Every week!!! sorry for rant
lutonblue 1,974
THERE was always one thing guaranteed at Sheffield United when Charles Green was in charge – turbulence. And Dave Bassett has told Rangers fans to strap themselves in as the gruff Yorkshireman looks set to take the Light Blues on a similar rocky journey.Green had a controversial three-year spell at Bramall Lane as owner Mike McDonald’s right-hand man and Bassett was the first of many victims. As the legendary manager put it to RecordSport: “Charlie was openly brazen that things were going to change atSheffield United and that there would be some dead bodies about and I was one he was going to assassinate.”But that was just the start of it. During Green’s reign as chief executive, several long-standing members of staff left Bramall Lane including the club physio, kit man and several backroom staff. In the last week at Ibrox, Ally McCoist’s chief scout Neil Murray and physio Philip Yeates have both left the club, striker Fran Sandaza has been sacked after he was the victim of a hoax call and the stadium’s facilities manager, Ross Macaskill, has also left.A source at the Blades, who was in a senior position at the club when McCoist’s former Ibrox team-mate Nigel Spackman was in charge, said: “He got rid of people on the coaching staff and in other positions so he could get his own men in.“They weren’t the manager’s choices but it made him feel stronger. He’d try and pull the wool over the manager’s eyes and get people in who are trustworthy in his view so he has the relationship rather than the manager. It’s his only way of getting an ‘in’ into the playing side.“You’ve got to be very careful where Charles is concerned. In the end the power goes to his head. He’ll be caught up with being in charge of Rangers and being in the papers and the TV.“And he’s not answerable to anyone because you don’t know who the investors are.”Green, of course, was behind the recent share issue at Rangers which raised £22million and it was a similar story atSheffield United.A share issue at the Blades came on the back of the club seemingly showing ambition with big-name signings being made but they were later sold when things went wrong.Bassett’s seven-year spell as Blades boss was cut short when Green axed him and they later had a dispute over his pay-off when the Londoner said he didn’t receive his compensation in full. Green offered to sort it out in the car park but Bassettcalled his bluff and the tough-talking Yorkshireman quickly backed down.Eighteen years after those events, Bassett said: “I would love to have had the chance to take negotiations further in the car park. He didn’t want to.”But asked for his take on recent events at Rangers, with Green yesterday claiming he deceived Craig Whyte to get the keys to Ibrox after previously playing down the former owner’s role in the creation of the newco, Bassett said: “It doesn’t surprise me what is happening at Rangers. Bassett was ready to fight Green in car parkJulian Finney/Getty Images“Where Charlie’s involved, there’s always turbulence. My successor at United, Howard Kendall, was backed with cash because they had to improve the company due to the launch of a share issue.“They spent some money and did some trading with players because if you wanted to float the company you had to show it was being successful.“They had to give the impression they wanted to get to the Premiership otherwise fans wouldn’t have bought shares.“During the flotation they made a killing on the shares. When Sheffield United became a limited company there was a lot of money swilling about and I’m sure they did very well out of it. Fans later actually called for an investigation into the whole share issue.“I only worked with Charles for a short space of time and he wasn’t in a position where he sacked anyone that had an impact on me but I know with the likes of Nigel Spackman that this happened.“Nigel was treated like s**t. Charlie made it quite plain he was in charge of the team and that Nigel had to conform. Managers were kept on their toes, put it that way.“I know enough about Charlie to realise that there will always be things happening and a lack of stability. Charlie andcontinuity don’t go hand in hand.“When Charlie started at Sheffield he wasn’t interested in making any friends with the staff or anyone – and it was the same when he left.“He’s not remembered fondly but he doesn’t care whether he is or not. He’s loyal to the people who employ him. There’s no doubt he was loyal to Mike McDonald when he was at Sheffield United.“Charlie’s not an emotional person – making decisions that are unpleasant isn’t a problem for him.“I knew Mike a bit and he used Charlie as a hatchet man. He went in and did all the nasty jobs that had to be done and he was capable of doing that. He was comfortable about it.“I’ve met a few ruthless people in my time but a lot of business people are ruthless. They haven’t made their money or been successful businessmen by being nice to people. They’ve all had a spell where they’ve made ruthless decisions.“Charlie wasn’t my cup of tea but he was never going to be because he was coming in to sack me and I knew that soimmediately we were at loggerheads. I’d be worried about anything Charlie is involved with.“Charlie might make money for Rangers and I wouldn’t put it past him that the club could get sold to someone else after he’s cut them to whatever requirements. United owner McDonald with new Blades boss Spackman and Green in 1997Sheffield Newspapers Ltd“Rangers is a business. It could be Barratt Homes or Scottish Power. Charlie’s not in love with the product.“I’ve said before how he said to me if he could make more money turning Bramall Lane into a potato field then he’d do it.“And these people who are with him will be there to move Rangers on and come out with a profit.“Charlie has floated a few firms over the years and has earned some good money.”unless he has spoke again that is old news , over one yr ago
wully 49,709
I`m sure Sheffield United are big in Sheffield, but Charlie is CEO of a worldwide footballing instituition, and hopefully is a few years older and wiser. He is, look at him in the picture with Spackman.
