Rev James Currie

The Rev Jimmy was one of the few public figures to profess his love for The Rangers. His first Church, St James Parish in Pollok, had a massive congregation. When you see the hatred shown towards the Gers in the last 2 years, it's not surprising so few public figures show their support, but nothing would have stopped the Rev Jimmy supporting his club.

You can only imagine the depths the gutter press of today would go to to dig some dirt on him.

I heard him speak at a Burns Supper in Irvine once. The man was amazing and could hold his audience so well. He absolutely loved Rangers and loved stealing a few one liners about them in his speeches.

We could do with a few more like him today that's for sure.

A man of the cloth who was in the limelight and not afraid to let people know he was a Proud Rangers Supporter unlike today's gutless mealie mouthed apologists that pass off as 'celebrities' who are afraid to be linked to the Club without doing little sisters of the poor charity stunts ! ;):sherlock:

Jimmy Currie used to organise and lead tours to the Holy Land 2 or 3 times a year during the 80`s, I met him in Israel when I was working out there.

When he arrived at our place with the coach (or coaches, his tours were always very popular) - he would dive off and kiss the ground wearing his Rangers scarf, dog collar and kilt. He would then beseech you on bended knee that him and his pilgrims be afforded shelter at this gaff - or words to that effect.

His Tour Groups were always good fun and would organise the next lot to have someone bring you out any important stuff you might need - like Brut aftershave or 200 Regal.

Rev. Currie was a larger than life character who never forgot a name and was genuinely funny.

Prince or Pauper he was always the same, although some on his busses thought he was a better comic than tour guide.
