SPFL fails in legal bid over pub showing foreign coverage of games

Recommended Posts

it's not been a good week for them has it, along with the sfa who pays for the new league set up farce

The Scottish Professional Football League is facing a £1.7m damages claim after it failed in an appeal to prevent a pub from showing live games using a satellite decoder.

As a result of the latest instalment in the long-running legal battle, the football authority is facing the claim from Lisini Pub Management, which is owned by former Celtic player Harry Hood.

Was the eventuality of this arising not one of the things that caused a delay in the ratification of the takeover of the SFL by the SPL? If this does go to the courts for a judgement it could certainly help lift the lid on the true state of the finances of Scottish football and the fine details of the contracts that have been signed regarding TV and Internet broadcasting revenue. It should be noted that to date none of the companies involved in these deals have had enough faith in them to become the official league sponsor.

As was mentioned in a previous post there is still the 1m bill for the takeover of the SFL by the SPL and its subsequent rebranding to pay for. This makes me wonder if they have actually settled their legal bill for the LNSI into our club. A bill they tried to get us to pay for them. So what we have here is a possibility that they have outstanding debts of £3,350,000 at a time when the league has no sponsorship.

It would be interesting to know if any of the companies who were involved with the broadcasting/streaming contracts were foolish enough to pay money up front on these deals. Unless there is a money stream coming in that we don't know about the finances look pretty poor.
