Bothwellbear 1,392
Island’s Gers fans have the blue carpet rolled out for them editorial image Published on the 30 March 2014 06:58 Print this The Lewis and Harris Rangers Supporters Club enjoyed their annual group visit to Glasgow last weekend as Rangers faced Dunfermline at Ibrox. The 600-strong Stornoway based club is officially recognised by Rangers FC as the biggest RSC anywhere in the world and travels to Glasgow once a year for a day’s hospitality at Ibrox. This year’s trip was made extra special by a tour of Murray Park – Rangers’ state-of-the-art training facility – which had been arranged for them by Rangers captain Lee McCulloch. Following the Murray Park tour, on the Friday evening the Island fans headed to The Louden Tavern for the Isle of Harris True Blues Bash. Rangers legends Alex Rae, Nacho Novo and Marvin Andrews were the guest speakers at the event and entertained the crowd with a fantastic question and answer session about their time at the club. Saturday was the big day – and 115 members of the Lewis and Harris RSC packed the Ibrox Suite for hospitality as Ally McCoist’s side cruised to a 2-0 win over Dunfermline. Joining them in the suite were former Gers stars Derek Parlane, Alex MacDonald, Colin Stein, Willie Johnston, Colin Jackson, Tam Forsyth, Derek Johnstone and Lewis and Harris Honorary Member Ronnie McKinnon. Following the match, CEO Graham Wallace visited the Ibrox Suite along with players Lee Wallace and Bilel Mohsni. Graham Wallace made a speech thanking the fans for their incredible support, before vice-captain Lee Wallace was presented with the Lewis and Harris RSC’s 2014 Player of the Year Award by member Ken Macleod. Both players then spent some time with the fans posing for photos and signing autographs. The welcome and hospitality shown to the travelling supporters by everyone at both Murray Park and Ibrox throughout their trip was second to none. A brilliant weekend was had by all and the members are looking forward to next year’s trip already.
