Ger77 742
VIP service at Abbey to praise the taxmanBy Steve Hawkes and Kevin SchofieldA VIP service to praise the taxman is being held in Westminster Abbey. The boss of HM Revenue & Customs Lin Homer has invited top guests to "recognise the departments role over hundreds of years in collecting revenue".The invitation-only event in the church - where Kate and Wills wed in 2011 - will be held on September 23.HMRC staff, civil servants and "key partners" will all honour the taxman. An HMRC spokesman insisted it is not payng for the Abbey and claimed the event will boost staff morale after 34,000 job cuts since 2005.Civil servant Homer, 57, joined HMRC in 2011 from the UK Borders Agency where MP's called her time in charge a "catastrophic leadership failure".In July she insisted she keep a £20,000 bonus on top of her £185,000 salary despite a £1.9 Billion error from overstating extra tax collected.Andy Silvester, of the TaxPayers Alliance, said;"HMRC got £5.5 Million tax bills wrong last year. The last thing they need is a day out at the Abbey. Taxpayers will be furious".

Spectre 1,663
Just the one wee £2 billion pound error, hardly worth mentioning .One has to wonder what her bonus payment was connected to, much like in the banking industry it seems bonuses are set up to be received no matter how catastrophically you fail. BigDak 814
One has to wonder what her bonus payment was connected to, much like in the banking industry it seems bonuses are set up to be received no matter how catastrophically you fail.I appreciate that some of these positions carry a lot of responsibility but the fact that there are multiple civil servants out there making six-figure salaries is so wrong.
