Up the high-rise flats. Heidy-two-touch in the landing, blasting the baw off the storm doors until you got chased and had to resume the game on another floor. :D

And belted roon the ear if you got caught, then cuffed again by your dad as they recognised you and told your mum n dad. Talk about taking responsibility for your actions!

10-21er

When the teams were so unfair we'd stop at 10-0 and put the best player from the winning team in the losing team, 10-10 before you knew it :D

Great times.

How fucking old are you?

Times change and move on - we have an academy now with the proper coaches in place and system to work too. That is how youths learn, not kicking a ball against a close.[/quote

Hmm. We have academies now eh, so how is that working out then, Apart from the fact that the OP is talking about street kids, well back in the day Scottish teams both club and international were respected and even sometimes feared, maybe professional coaches should think of reintroducing playing with tennis balls to hone some skills,........just saying.

One touch one bounce, heads and volleys, world cuppies. Setting up goals from old fenceposts in the stony disused croft behind the house. Summer nights spent playing till after midnight in near enough broad daylight. Getting annoyed because your cousin got to be Albertz again. Good times.

As much as I think proper coaching and modern methods are the way forward I still think Scotland and probably the UK in general are missing street footballers.

Growing up in a scheme and playing football everyday after school anywhere you could, playing against boys from other streets and getting kicked up and down by the older boys is a great learning curve.

As much as kicking a ball against a close sounds simple, things like that actually help bring on a good first touch etc.

Arsene Wenger said recently that one of the reasons the likes of Sanchez and Suarez have become so good is because they are street footballers from a poorer background and that's why they have more character and a steely personality and great desire to win. Work there socks off every match.

A good balance of both would be the ideal scenario.

Not heard anyone mention annieslanders haha, one guy each either end of the tenement close, 1st player heads it towards the other guy trying to score, the other guy gets the chance to either kick it before it hits the ground or save it, if he saves it then he restarts with a header and so on, if the second guy managed to get the boots to the original header then the second guy also can shoot with his foot as well, until someone scores and then it starts all over again.

Was great when it was pishing of rain outside, and it could last for ages or until the neighbours on either side of the close got pissed off and came out and chased you out the close haha.

Oh happy days.

Slide tackles on red ash ripping the skin of yer legs

5s on the playground concrete, up onto the school roof to get the ball back before the janny caught you

You can tell all the guys who come from Glesga' from this thread haha, playing on red ash or worse black ash, as soon as you played any team from outside Glesga' you played on grass with goals with real nets, sliding tackles from 10ft away, goalies diving for everything LOL, it was like kids in a candy store.

All you guys from the outlying districts had it made, you lucky bastards.

I mind playing school football, can't mind the tournament, but teams were turning up trying to play football wearing football studs on our red ash pitch and we were all running about in our gutties taking the piss right out them

Was why we hated getting drawn against a Glesga team in the Scottish Schools Cup. Slide tackles on our grass field were fine, go to Glasgow and you still had the same mind set till that first slide tackle on a cinder or black ash filed.

I'm not that old but if there was a game to be played when we were wee then we played fitba all day and night. Personal favourite was Worldy but you can't beat the dying moments of a game and some cunt shouts "NEXT TEAM TO SCORE WINS!" followed quickly by "ANY MAN SAVE!" haha brilliant. There's a big 3g pitch and smaller ones along the road from my gaff though and they're always packed so the kids these days are definitely still out there playing probably just as much as we did.
