Jason Holt: Rangers agree compensation fee with Hearts

Rangers have agreed a compensation fee with Hearts for the signing of Jason Holt and the midfielder will now begin contract talks with the Ibrox club.

Holt, 22, had been training with Rangers as a triallist and would become the seventh signing since the appointment of manager Mark Warburton.

He is a free agent after rejecting a contract offer from Hearts.

However, they are entitled to compensation because he came through the youth ranks at the club.

Holt spent four years at Hearts, but spent the latter part of last season on loan at Sheffield United.

He has made 90 senior appearances in his career, scoring 13 times.

Wasn't sure about him when I first heard but having watched the highlights from the Burnley game and from what I heard about his performance versus Ayr United in the game at Murray Park he seems to be involved in play a lot and perhaps Warburton's style of play will suit him.

Also for 65k it is a risk worth taking. Honestly thought Hearts would want about double that.

Good signing, liked the look of him tonight. Comfortable on the ball, and despite not taking his chance during the game, is obviously a decent finisher.

The signing of Jason Holt, Andy Halliday, Jordan Thompson, plus the fact we still have John Eustace training with us who seems to be a "must" signing for Warburton and the continuing speculation over Scott Allan must seem like a warning sign to players like Nicky Law, David Templeton, Robbie Crawford, Fraser Aird, Barrie McKay, Dean Shiels, Andy Murdoch that getting game time this season won't be easy and that perhaps some of these midfieders will have to move on to accommodate players for other positions.

What's your take on it, young Ben?
