Our Shooting

Our strike force is poor and the midfield foundation limits quality of supply.

We lack cutting edge. Making that pass, or making that run - when it matters!

I don't believe lack of cutting edge is anything other than lack of quality. Players that are proven to give cutting edge, even at SPFL level, cost money and want good wages.

Using Miller as a barometer, at 37 he appears our most cutting edge player. When Miller was 27 he was reknown for energy, persistence and work rate. He was not known for being prolific or giving cutting edge. Whilst he is a smarter player now than 10yrs ago, he should absolutely not, at 37yrs old, be our biggest "when it matters" goal threat.

Shooting is a skill that some are good at and others are just woeful,Shooting practice is pointless as your under no pressure from defenders,On a pitch against 11 players you don't get anytime to think and have the blink of an eye at times to hit the ball first time.

In hindsight it's easy for people to sit and be critical and how we all would have buried those chances pro players miss,But for the same pro players some of the shots which fly miles past the target is embarrassing for guys that are paid thousands a week.

I am sorry mate but you can still create drills and situations on the training park which of course will not fully replicate a game but will still put some pressure on the player shooting and get them to think a wee bit more than just having no one defending or obstructing them. For example. Waggy likes to come in from the right hand side and shoot across.goal.. therefore create a drill where there is one sitting defender snd one closing him down in order that he can get the ball away and have a pop at goal. It helps re create the situation, but not the fullness of the match.  People.talk abput training here . Whereas on the continent it is seen as practice.  And it's not practice that makes things perfect. It's PERFECT practice that makes it perfect. You can practice all day long with the wrong situations, the lack of drive snd.desire to improve and go through the motions.  What you need to create is a situation where players actually want to improve their game

Football is one of the worst sports for people wanting to really get better and improve. Games like golf snooker darts tennis etc have players in them who "practice " their skills and not just "train'. They spend hours and hours honing their skills to improve and you can physically see it when you watch them. When was the last player anyone could say that "there has been some change in that players this season. ..he must be working hard to improve .. he is staying back working on his touches. . Shooting etc." Probably as I said last night ... Wes foderingham. . You can see the work he has put in for cross balls.its night and day from last season. So why are outfield players not doing likewise. Cos it's a poor standard of.coach and like all players they fall into turning up for "training" go out and play 7  a side a.wee.run round the park probably and home.

Watched some of the "attempts" again and noticed the problem. Players leaning back instead of forward over the ball. Only one result from that - ballooned over the bar. Like every golfer knows, keep the head down and eye on the ball. The same applies in football.

Waghorn's biggest problem is his fixation on moving the ball onto his left foot before shooting,He should have the ability to use his right foot in situations where it only requires a side foot shot on goal,He totally lacks confidence with his right foot when required and could easily improve his game.

Garners shot against St Johnstone in the first half was a total embarrassment, the ball went 90 deg. sideways and listening to Warburtons presser today he said we score as a team not just the forwards, every player has to hit the target. Good strikers come at a premium and he is geared up for everyone in the team to score, the mans a dreamer

He's not the only one. Can any of our players be described as two footed? I'm trying to think of one.

That was awful, born of desperation. We can only hope some go in soon to help breed some composure.

Our shooting is fuckin shocking.

Coos.. arse...banjo !!

I can't see how a professional player can't hit the target from 30 yards out. most are closer to the corner flag than the goals or far too high.

It's not even that hard to fucking shoot and hit the target. Amazes me the pros can't do it.

I'm staggered that we can't even misshit it & it pops in occasionally!

(although you might put Saturday's in that category!)
