Seems to be pretty highly rated at Ibrox, hopefully can go on to be number 1 at some point in the future.

RANGERS are delighted to announce goalkeeper Liam Kelly has been rewarded with a new two-year deal.

The 21 year-old, who came through the youth ranks at Auchenhowie, spent the last season and a half on-loan at East Fife and Livingston respectively, and has impressed boss Pedro Caixinha sufficiently to be rewarded with a new deal.

Indeed, having won League Two with the Fifers, he was a near ever-present for Livi last season as they claimed the League One title in some style, while previously he played key roles in penalty shootout wins for Gers youth sides in the 2012 Glasgow Cup and 2014 Youth Cup.

Kelly has also represented Scotland at a variety of age groups, most recently the under-21 side.

He is yet to make a first-team appearance for Gers but will be a well-known face to supporters having been back-up to Wes Foderingham for the first half of the 2015/16 season.

His uncle is a taxi driver and a Tim but brand new, sure he used to play as a keeper as well at Junior level and was saying Kelly really loves playing for Rangers. Hopefully the boy cracks on and has a future at the club.

We had another CK who was being linked with Man utd a few years back, was it McCrorie?

Is he also still impressing or is he falling behind a bit?

He's not falling behind; the McCrorie twins are only 19. (Robby is the 'keeper and Ross the centre half.)

Says he had other offers of first team football but he's not spent 13 years here for nothing, he wants to be Rangers number 1.

I know lately we haven't had much success bringing youths through but goalies is a position we strangely struggle with......McGregor being the only one of note and he was a decent age when he eventually got established

Not dismissing the point mate but not sure it is that strange,  how many big clubs can claim to have number 1 they brought through their youth system?

It's a tough ask to identify, develop and retain them.

That aside, well done to the lad, seems the loan system is working well for him and us on this occasion.

Edit: I've perhaps misunderstood your point, you mean is bringing them through regardless of whether we maintain them or not? -  apologies.

Imagine having a keeper called Liam Kelly as the Rangers Number 1, their heads would explode.

Looks like a top prospect and good to see he's already been a part of league-winning teams.
