RO Analysis: Rangers' wing play in focus

Stats and more stats can mean not a lot depending on how you read them.

On Sunday we only had 3 attempts on target which usually would be derided as not good enough, but as these attempts all ended as goals there are no complaints.

3 shots on target per game would be poor but 3 goals per game would be very acceptable.

Didn't actually know we only had the 3 on target on Sunday, felt watching the game though that we weren't creating enough, seem to lack that creative player to break a team down. We're also afraid (have been since Warburton) to have a fucking shot from range, would rather play 6/7 passes around the box and lose it.

We had shots from distance on Sunday. They just happened to be rank.

Just checked, had 14 in total, obviously 11 off target.

I can't remember a time when someone like Dorrans or Kranjcar picked up the ball and just had a pop, especially into their keeper who looked shaky after that 2nd goal.

Yet when it's a free kick from 25/30 yards we've got Dorrans/Kranjcar/Candeias/Tav/Alves all wanting a dig lol

Interesting to see their take on Ross County game. Left wing is clearly a problem position with Niko not having the legs to play there and continually dropping inside.

Think we need to either play or dump Dodoo and/or Dalcio and bring in Walker or someone with a bit of pace who can hit the bye line and deliver a good cross in.

Windass doesnt have a left foot. Thats why he doesnt cross as much as Candeias. He will come inside to shoot, rather than go outside and cross. Not being cheeky, but thats not rocket science.

Seems to be common now playing left footed wingers on the right and reverse on the right. As you say this prevents them crossing on their bad foot and means they wont get to the bye line either & deliver the type cross/cutback that you cant defend.

Will usually mean they deliver a low percentage ball, which is always swinging away from inrushing forwards & either goes straight to the keeper or over the goal line.

Means you have to be bang on the money, or you're wasting your time.

With this narrower set up you need to make sure you use the fullbacks which can be problematic when you lose possession and they are out of position.

Yup - we always manage to get caught with someone out of position.

Often it's Tav, who will be found in centre-mid at least some point in a game.

Look how many shots on target Celtic had and they dropped 2 points, like someone mentioned above you could hit shots at goal all day, not going to matter a thing if you don't hit the back of the net, that simple. So it's a very good point mentioned above about statistics being something you could really only take with a pinch of salt at times, if anything that match proved Rangers are capable of being clinical up front, not sure on a consistent basis however other than Morelos.
