Jimmy was killed at the Battle of Passchendaele and was buried in Dochy Farm New British Cemetery just outside Ypres. Jimmy Speirs was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field. Struth’s travelling party played five games in 14 days, winning 5-0 in Berlin - (J. Smith 3, Fleming & McPhail), 3-1 in Hamburg - J.Smith 2 & Marshall pen., 5-0 in Bochum- (English 2, McPhail 2 & Fleming), and 3-2 in Dresden - (J.Smith 3) but losing 2-1 in Munich.
