We can argue about particular players, but the point is that two opportunities have been lost to have a major clear-out and rebuild. The first was after winning the title in 2021, when it would have made sense to day 'thanks and farewell' to a number of players, and the second was this summer, when the new manager should have been given the chance to build his own team. Despite the new arrivals, the heart of this squad is dated (not just age-wise).

According to Gio he hadnt really had bids for our bigger name players (aside from the ones that left). The Sakala Burnley thing doing the rounds, Id be sceptical that offer was true as clearly Gio doesnt rate him.

That's fair comment, but we also gave new contracts to a number of players who might have been allowed to leave, creating salary  space for new arrivals.

McGregor, McLaughlin, Helander, Souttar (loan, can just feel it), Davis, Arfield, Jack, Kamara, Kent, Morelos and Roofe.

Big but needed clear out.

Yep.

Add to that Matondo, Sakala.

Easier to name those you’d keep.

Don't know the respective contracts details but, based purely on a future with us, I would keep…

McCrorie (assuming he’s taken over as No. 1)

Ridvan (assuming that he’s broken through and justified his fee)

Tavernier

Goldson

King

Davies

Sands (if a sensible fee can be agreed)

Hagi

Lundstram

Lowry

McCann

Lawrence

Tillman

Colak

Fringe youngsters like Lovelace, Devine and the best of those on loan.

Almost feels the same kind of watershed moment when we blew 10IAR by asking for just one more season when refresh and renew was needed.

Gross mismanagement to sleepwalk into this mess.

Trouble is the money to do it. We free up wages but to replace those two you are looking at 10 plus million and its obvious there's no money to splash.

We need CL next season if we are to have a hope getting the kind of quality we need as I don't think the investors will be putting in any more now.

Hopefully wrong but it's how I see it

I reckon there is money there to pay for transfers but its the wage budget that's holding us back. Could be wrong and we're paying off other things and the board are getting a bit of money back.
