Boab 73
Uefa are to trial the use of two extra assistant referees in the penalty area at both free-kicks and corners as an alternative to goal-line technology. The idea of Uefa boss Michel Platini is to be trialled at youth tournaments. "The game's a lot faster now, it's hard to keep up with play all the time," said Uefa spokesman William Gaillard. The experiment will include using the assistants both behind the goal-line and inside the penalty box as extra eyes and ears for the referee. "We have the go-ahead from the International FA Board to conduct trials on this and we believe it could work," added Gaillard. "They would be just like the linesmen, talking to the ref through a radio system. "Some people say it is better for them to stay behind the goal, others that it is better inside the penalty area so that things that go on like pulling and pushing are properly sanctioned." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/7193771.stm
Poetry_In_Blue 1,043
I'm not sure I would like an extra referee inside the penalty box, he could/would get in the way, one either side of the goal behind the line should be sufficient.

disgruntled_bear 157
I can see this working at ametuer level You Only get a Ref at amatuer level, On rare occasions You'll get Linesmen or assistant Refs in a Cup game It costs £36 to hire a ref at Amatuer level,£15 each for Assistant refs

justiston 91
If they just say about behind the goal then yeah maybe - but to be honest - if a referee can't spot any fouls when they are on the edge of the box....maybe they are just not good enough? Del Juve 1
Yip thats what the game needs. More referees involved to create more chances of human error. Theres already occasions where a linesman and a ref dont agree on a decision so now they decide to throw in more???
