BLUEDIGNITY 33,714
Oh father dear father, Why are all the fields so green, Oh no my son, oh no my son, Its not the way it seems, In our dear land from end to end, But sometimes seldom shows, In every field of Ulster's soil, The orange lily grows. Chorus The fields of Ulster, The fields of Ulster, The dear Lord ploughs and sows, The fields of Ulster, The fields of Ulster, Where the orange lily grows. That sacred flower in darkest hours, The emblem of our faith, Was worn across the centuries, By Ulster soldiers brave, It's petals spreading far and wide, Until the whole world knows, In every field of Ulster soil, The orange lily grows. Chorus Oh father dear father, That couldn't be achieved, I'm off to join that gallant band, The Ulster volunteers, For as long as Derry's walls still stand, And the River Boyne still flows, In every field of Ulster soil, The orange lily grows. Chorus

*Manticore* 1,893
Love that song. Funny story. After the UEFA Final we were stuck in a train just outside piccadilly for about an hour. Mixed crowd, almost all bears, including a couple of quite loud young Ulster bears. Loads of songs, but when somebody started up 'The Fields of Ulster' and we all joined in (like you I love that song). One of the young Ulster bears said to the other 'Fuck me. They're singing a song about Ulster that I've never heard'.

It was more than an hour mate, it was nearly 2 hours cause I was on that train, they kept us at manchester oxford road under the pretence the doors were malfunctioning, it was to get the riot squad organised at Blackpool north for our return in case there was any trouble, first time I've seen the pubs in blackpool shut so early and it was nice to get a welcoming committee to meet you at the station horses an all. Fuckin arseholes ! Yes and there are a lot more songs the young Bears should know about and will mate !
