Celtc to swoop for Pennant

Doubt it.

CELTIC are weighing up a swoop for Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant.

Hoops boss Gordon Strachan is on the hunt for a wide man to add to his squad as he bids for title No4.

The 25-year-old has shot to the top of his wanted list. Pennant has just six months left on his Kop deal and the Reds are keen to offload him.

That could see Strachan table a bid to land him when the transfer window opens, or even on loan.

If those moves were to fail he could even try to get him on a pre-contract.

Pennant’s arrival would provide the Hoops with a ready-made replacement for axed star Aiden McGeady and Shunsuke Nakamura, who will quit the club in the summer.

It’s believed Pennant has a clause in his Liverpool contract which would trigger an extension should he play more than 15 matches this season.

But so far he has started just three.

Kop boss Rafa Benitez splashed out £6.7million for him in 2006 despite his troubled past, which had seen him jailed for driving while disqualified.

Pennant has struggled to make an impact.

Benitez admits he could offload some of his fringe stars next month. He said: “I might be able to sell some players. It depends on the interest.”

Pennant has already been linked with a swap move to Spurs involving Aaron Lennon.

He has also reportedly snubbed switches to Blackburn and Stoke.

Arsenal signed him at 16 from Notts County for £2m. But Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was not impressed by his off-field antics and after a series of loan moves he was sold to Birmingham.

In 2005 he became the first to play while wearing an electronic tag after his early-release from his 90-day sentence.

Pennant is engaged to Page 3 model Amii Grove. He proposed to her in a graveyard last month.

Meanwhile, Dundee United keeper Lukasz Zaluska was in Glasgow yesterday for talks over a summer Bosman switch.

A pre-contract agreement is likely within days.

this is hilarious, pennant is greedy and would want at least £50k a week. and besides, he's hardly the fastest or most talented winger out there is he?

would rather have davis any day - a player with passion and equivelant skill

i hope they do get him. Hes pish and has never lived up to his early potential. I dont particularly rate mcgeady to be honest but hes a better player than pennant. If they want pennant as a replacement for mcgeady happy days as it will weaken them.
