gersgirl 0
As some of you may or may not know, Sammy has lived here in Canada since the late 60's. He is held in very high regard by all of the clubs in NARSA, and has participated in many of the various clubs functions, including many NARSA conventions. Unfortunately with Sammy's advancing age, his health is not the same as it used to be and his short term memory often fails him. One thing he never forgets, or tires of speaking about, are his days with Rangers and "MR Struth" (and it is ALWAYS MR!) Sammy has told me about such things as the day he shuffled nervously into Mr. Struth's office to invite him to his wedding and almost fainted when he stated he would be honoured to attend. He told me about how strict a disciplinarian Mr. Struth was (Sammy was spotted simply holding a pack of fags belonging to a pal and was cut from the team that day) Most of all he would talk about how proud he had been, and how much he had loved playing for Rangers. I loved that, after Sammy was voted into the Rangers Hall of Fame, he would ask us, while showing us his wee statue, "now what am I supposed to do with this thing?" At the same time you could see in his face how proud he was to have "that thing". Few could ever deserve it more. Sammy has this past week, had to visit some medical specialists about a problem he is having with his eyes. A member of our supporters club who is a very close friend of Sammy and his wife Jean, picked Sammy up to take him to his appointment. In preparation for these appointments Sammy had proudly donned his SFA blazer and Rangers tie in order to look his best. That really says something doesnt it? Sammy will be needing minor outpatient surgery mid December to correct the problem with his eyes, so if everyone could spare him a wee thought it would be "simply the best". Sammy's wife Jean will be joining our club for our Christmas outing on December 1st, unfortunately Sammy's health prevents him from being there himself. Jean is one amazing lady herself and we are all looking forward to her spending the evening with us. If there are any messages anyone would like me to give to Jean to pass on to Sammy I am sure it would make him VERY VERY happy. If I had enough messages for him I could put them into a wee book for him.

kirkiebear 1,013
iam a younger generation of rangers fan and of course i didnt have the pleasure of watching him play, but that post tells me what the club means to him, and what he means to the fans and it just shows you that being part of rangers will live with you for the rest of your life. There is no doubt he must of been good as i have heard so many people speaking good words of him, and his flag at ibrox that usually appears in the broomloan tells me the guy was a true legend. Hope he gets better soon.
*Manticore* 1,893
Great stuff, wish him all the best, a true Rangers legend, part of a legendary team. He played at a time when Rangers could make a reasonable claim to being one of if not the best team(s) in the World. To be a Ranger is to sense the sacred trust of upholding all that such a name means in this shrine of football. They must be true in their conception of what the Ibrox tradition seeks from them. No true Ranger has ever failed in the tradition set him. The players of those days knew what it meant to play for The Rangers.
J_RFC87 761
I live when his flag comes out on the Broomloan stand on match days. Like kirkiebear, I never got to see him play but my family tell me stories about him a lot, which shows the respect they had for him.

I SO want to see it when I am at the game in January.

If any of the older bears on here (or any younger ones remember any stories they've been told) have any special memories about Sammy or any games he played in I would love to include them in the wee book I want to make up for him. If I get enough messages here for him I can do it up proper for him.

CanadianGer 1
Pity Sammy isn't closer to home to impart some of that dignity, discipline and pride into our Murray Park youngsters - and our first team. The proud traditions of Rangers FC which many of us hold dear are embodied in guys like Sammy. Please pass my best wishes to him for a speedy recovery and a terrific 2008 for him and his family. (I know the new year is a while away but given its the Christmas dinner...)

Get hold of manfromdelmonte, Barry221 or Del157 then (over on the other place). Tell them you're a good looking burd, that'll do the trick.

donmac 0
Never had the pleasure of seeing him play but my old man goes on about him. Reading the original post brings a lump to your throat. Obviously a true Ranger. I believe the banner is looked after by TBO but you could also contact a member of the NARSA Committee as I believe the banner belongs to them. BlueIsTheColour 35
My fathers favourite player. Like so many other i did not have the honour of watching Wee Sammy play but he is a Rangers legend and therefore gets my respect and admiration. He was part of generation in which the players knew what Rangers meant and how important winning was to the fans. Get well soon Sammy, Our thoughts are with you and your wife. You will always be part of the Rangers Family and that family will never abandon a member.

Saudibear 0
I've had the pleasure to speak to Sammy at several NARSA conventions, so know first hand how much Rangers mean to him. I know that for health reasons he has not been able to attend the last couple but Gersgirl, rest assured he is in the thoughts and prayers of the Orlando RSC members that know him and all true Rangers supporters.
